Although National Preparedness Month in September is complete, we can still do our part every day to keep our community safe. The Port of Redwood City is a proud recipient of a Department of Homeland Security Port Security Grant supporting public safety. #ProtectYourEveryDay

The Green Marine environmental certification program is the most broad and inclusive maritime partnership encompassing ship owners, terminals, shipyards, Seaway corporations and ports, including us at the Port of Redwood City. Green Marine brings together more than 150 participants from coast to coast in Canada and the United States. We share the same commitment of improving our environmental performance. #GreenerTogether https://green-marine.org/members/participants/

By participating in Green Marine's environmental program, the Port of Redwood City is working to address key environmental impacts to air, land, water, and communities. The certification process requires self-assessment, external verification, and the publication of our results. To maintain our certification, we must also demonstrate measurable year-over-year improvement. #credibility #transparency https://green-marine.org/certification/

Just rolling through Monday with the Redwood City Fire Department fireboat crew! Follow along in a new series on #MaritimeMonday and #WorkingPortWednesday, as we share important Port tips and facts that help support your local Redwood City port operations including learning more about the port’s main imports and exports! The Port has two ships in today. The Union Erwin is unloading bauxite imported from Australia. The ship is 190 meters long (~630 feet). It’s flag is from the Marshall Islands. The Honorable Henry Jackman is unloading cement aggregates (sand & gravel) imported from British Columbia, Canada. The ship is 244 meters long (~805 feet). It’s flag is from the Bahamas. #economicdevelopment #foreigntrade #MaritimeMonday

The dredging project is underway and going well. This $1.6M investment supports Port operations, the working waterfront, economic vitality to the region and personal water recreational use in and around the Redwood Creek Channel.

The Port of Redwood City is pleased to have welcomed Colonel Kimberly Colloton of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and her staff members to the Port last month. Colonel Colloton is the new Commander of the South Pacific Division, headquartered in San Francisco. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is a strategic partner to all U.S. Ports and has approximately 37,000 civilians and soldiers defending the U.S. and delivering engineering services to more than 130 countries worldwide. Most notably related to Port maritime operations, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers supports the U.S. economy by dredging America’s waterways and the construction of infrastructure to ensure the movement of critical commodities. The visit provided an opportunity for Port staff to educate Colonel Colloton and her team about the Port’s strategic operations benefitting the Silicon Valley region and various other projects and priorities. The Port and the Army Corps are collaborating on a significant federal dredging project to begin in 2019; deepening the harbor channel to support current and potentially larger cargo ships and vessels to call at the Port.
