The Nature of Homeopathy
By Michael Ge**er, HMD
After practicing homeopathic and integrative medicine for 40 years, I am continually in awe of its power and complexities. Homeopathy is not only based on the patient’s symptoms but also on their personality. It embodies what I wished psychiatric drugs could have been during my early days at the Palo Alto VA Hospital. Remedies are tailored to the individual’s nature and symptoms without the adverse side effects often associated with psychiatric drugs. Of course, homeopathy also addresses every imaginable human illness and personality.
Modern homeopathy was first discovered by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700s, when he was commissioned by the king to treat malaria in his soldiers who were fighting in the swamps. He then observed that larger doses of quinine caused relapsing fevers and joint pain, similar to malaria. He reasoned that a large dose might reverse the symptoms, and indeed, it proved to be true.
There are now more than 1,000 homeopathic remedies available; thankfully, around twenty or so remedies, known as the polycrest, are most frequently used. Remedies are indexed in a homeopathic repertory, a large book or computer database, which is utilized to match remedies with the patient’s condition. Standard dosing techniques may be employed, and the EAV computer, which I have discussed in these pages, enhances dosing accuracy and confidence.
Due to the extreme dilution of the remedies beyond the likelihood of retaining even one molecule of the original substance, Western medicine has been in conflict with homeopathy for over 200 years—dating back to the days when allopathic doctors, conventional MDs, were still prescribing gross, poisonous lead arsenic, and mercury preparations for their patients. Homeopathic prescribing carries no toxicity outside of occasional, short-lived aggravation of symptoms. In contrast, 106,000 patients per year die from pharmaceutical drugs in the U.S., with 2.7 million being hospitalized.
For those interested, I encourage you to explore online homeopathic research studies. There are numerous books on the subject, particularly from Switzerland and Germany. While Wikipedia offers a blanket condemnation of homeopathy, it is widely utilized by 95% of French doctors. Furthermore, it constitutes the largest medical system in India and many other countries.

The Massive Underutilization of Thyroid Hormone Replacement Therapy
By Michael Ge**er, MD, HMD
Epidemic Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism, its causes, diagnosis, and treatment, is an extremely multifactorial issue. Misleading and misunderstood thyroid laboratory measures (TSH, T4) overshadow many important signs and symptoms revealed during physical examinations. Environmental and genetic inhibitory factors abound at every level of central and tissue thyroid receptors. Untreated thyroid dysfunction is responsible for untold misery, such as unnecessary hysterectomies due to menorrhagia, unnecessary administration of antidepressant drugs, and unnecessary pain medication. Quality of life issues, such as chronic fatigue, obesity, infertility, and up to 300 different health concerns could be addressed with proper thyroid support and lifestyle changes.
Though none of this information is particularly new, there are numerous recent citations I will review, which I hope will embolden doctors and patients, who may not have encountered them, to resist the standard, allopathic-only stance that unless thyroid blood test parameters are grossly abnormal, patients don’t require exogenous thyroid support. In my 41 years of medical practice, we have witnessed not just monthly, but daily and weekly miracles related to sensitive thyroid replacement therapy. All medical prescribing is both an art and science, particularly so for thyroid treatment. Balancing adrenal support is critical to avoid overstimulation during gentle titration of thyroid hormone. I do like to reiterate my “cup of coffee” rule of thumb. Patients who can drink a pot of coffee and go right to bed and sleep well can usually tolerate thyroid replacement at a more vigorous rate than those who experience sleep disturbances from even the faintest whiff of coffee. Patients who can't tolerate any stimulation need to be started from 1/16th grain or less of my favorite thyroid medication, NatureThroid (Westhroid), and the newer, even cleaner formulation, NatureThyroid P, especially for patients with allergies or sensitivities.
Many excellent books and treatises have been written on hypothyroidism. The first I read was Hypothyroidism: The Unsuspected Illness by Broda Barnes, MD. Stephen Langer, MD, authored Solved the Riddle of Illness. More recently, Mark Starr, MD, penned Hypothyroidism Type 2: The Epidemic. Also, Stop The Thyroid Madness by Janie A Bowthorpe, MEd. Older endocrinology texts, such as Wilson’s Endocrinology, remind us that a high cholesterol level was once considered the "poor man’s measure" of hypothyroidism. Extraordinarily complex biochemical evaluations of thyroid status will also be presented for informational contrast.

The Adrenal Glands: Our Body’s Principal Hormonal Energy Source
By Michael Ge**er, HMD

All life stress impacts the adrenal glands. Regardless of the form it takes, if you're experiencing exhaustion, insomnia, anxiety, fear, lack of endurance, difficulty concentrating, memory issues, upset stomach, irritability, chronic fatigue, recurrent illness, dependence on stimulants or painkillers, need for antidepressants, or reliance on substances like ci******es, caffeine, sugar, alcohol, or ma*****na to cope, you may be experiencing adrenal burnout.

While lifestyle changes can help moderate stress, when the adrenals are fatigued and exhausted, nothing supports the body faster and more deeply than adrenal cortical support. Situated atop the kidneys and often likened in appearance to Napoleon’s hat, the adrenal glands, in Chinese medicine, are considered the source of all Chi, or universal energy.

Adrenal stress and burnout are often overlooked by standard allopathic doctors, who typically diagnose only extreme conditions like adrenal failure (Addison's disease) or excess cortisol production (Cushing’s syndrome). However, there exists a vast middle ground of individuals suffering from adrenal fatigue syndrome, experiencing a significantly diminished quality of life. A valuable resource on this topic is "Adrenal Fatigue – The 21st Century Fatigue Syndrome" by James Wilson, ND, DC, and PhD.

What can be done? I believe everyone should study adrenal function, given that it's been the number one complaint in my office for the past 35 years. Start by managing stress with relaxation techniques and consider nutritional and hormonal support for the adrenal glands. Remember, rest is essential. Aim for eight to nine hours of sleep and try to incorporate regular vacations, even if they're brief.

It's crucial to remember that weak adrenal glands lead to mineral and neurotransmitter leakage. Opt for quality salts like Celtic or Real Salt, avoiding table salt, which often contains aluminum and lacks essential trace minerals. Adrenal glands produce aldosterone, which helps retain salt in the body. Weak adrenals can lead to the excretion of sodium and vital minerals through urine. Consuming half a teaspoon of sea salt in a large glass of water in the morning and after lunch may boost energy levels, provided there are no contraindications related to salt intake. Additionally, a robust vitamin and mineral supplement, particularly high in B5 (pantothenic acid) and Vitamin C, is crucial.

Drawing from the work of William McK Jefferies, MD, I've found that administering a very low-dose adrenal complex shot weekly, containing small amounts of cortisol, DHEA, and pregnenolone (components of the adrenal cortex), can help patients maintain steady blood sugar and energy levels for up to one week. Individuals with more severe adrenal exhaustion can safely consider adrenal gland extract tablets or low doses of cortisol two to four times per day until they can enhance their adrenal function through nutritional and lifestyle interventions.

Vitamin D: More Than Just a Vitamin

Vitamin D is not just another vitamin; it's a steroid hormone that exerts influence over virtually every cell in our body. Considered one of nature’s most potent cancer fighters, it possesses the remarkable ability to infiltrate cancer cells and initiate apoptosis, or programmed cell death.
The intake of Vitamin D3 (avoiding the synthetic D2 form) has been linked to the prevention of tens of thousands of deaths from breast and colon cancer. Further studies suggest that aged and elderly individuals can reduce their risk of developing heart disease and diabetes by as much as 43 percent with adequate Vitamin D levels.
Research indicates that optimizing Vitamin D levels could potentially prevent at least 16 types of cancer, including pancreatic, lung, ovarian, prostate, and skin cancers. In fact, some sources suggest it may play a role in preventing all cancers, as noted in a 2010 article by renowned Dr. Joseph Mercola.
Beyond its cancer-fighting properties, Vitamin D has long been recognized for its role in promoting strong bones and preventing conditions like osteoporosis and rickets. Additionally, it bolsters the immune system, offering protection against serious infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, septic shock, respiratory infections, and influenza.
Moreover, Vitamin D supplementation has been found to alleviate behavioral disorders such as seasonal affective disorder (SAD), commonly known as the "winter blues."
Determining optimal Vitamin D levels can be easily achieved through blood tests. Typically, levels of 50 to 70 ng/ml can be attained by supplementing with 5,000 IU per day for adults, although some individuals may require higher doses. Children should generally take half that dose or less. While sunlight exposure is an excellent natural source of Vitamin D, it's often impractical for many, particularly during winter months.
Importantly, I have not observed any side effects from Vitamin D supplementation.
In conclusion, these three nutrients are crucial for supporting long-term health.

Vitamin D is essential for bone health, immune function, and mood regulation. It can be obtained through sunlight exposure, certain foods like fatty fish and fortified dairy products, or supplements.

"Sauna's health benefits have been extolled for millennia. From ancient civilizations like Rome, Greece, and Scandinavia to indigenous cultures like the Native Americans, the importance of sweating has been recognized. Even modern medicine acknowledges its virtues. Far infrared saunas represent a high-tech, low-temperature evolution in sauna technology, harnessing the sun's radiation spectrum, which nurtures all life on Earth. With a temperature range of 90 to 140°F, far infrared saunas offer a more gentle experience compared to traditional saunas, which can reach temperatures of 140 to 220°F. This lower temperature range makes them well-suited for the elderly and the chronically ill, for whom high temperatures can be deleterious.

At our office, we've enhanced our sauna area to provide an even more relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Step into our tranquil space and experience the ancient ritual of sweating in a modern, comfortable setting. Whether you seek stress relief, muscle relaxation, or detoxification, our saunas offer a sanctuary for holistic wellness.
To make the benefits of our saunas accessible to everyone, we're pleased to offer flexible pricing options:
$20 for a single sauna session
$150 for a pack of 20 sessions
Sessions never expire once purchased, offering you the freedom to use them at your convenience.
Invest in your well-being today and discover the transformative power of our saunas. Book your session now and embark on a journey to relaxation and revitalization."
