Happy National Dog Day! Here at Bristlecone, we love dogs. For fun, here are some staff members with their fur babies!
It's National Overdose Awareness Week. Know the facts and share the facts.
This is an authentic lethal dose of fentanyl, displayed on the point of a number 2 pencil for size reference. DEA lab testing reveals that 7 out of every 10 pills with fentanyl contain a potentially lethal dose.
KNOW THE FACTS! Illicit Fentanyl is 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times stronger than he**in. There are two types of fentanyl: pharmaceutical fentanyl and illicit fentanyl. Drug cartels make and supply illicit fentanyl either as a standalone substance, as an additive deceptively put into other dangerous street drugs, such as he**in, co***ne, and methamphetamine or as substitutes for these drugs. Illicit fentanyl is purposely and deceptively added to other drugs because of its extreme potency, making drugs cheaper, more powerful, more addictive, and more dangerous. Fentanyl has also been identified in counterfeit prescription pills. These fake pills are made to look identical to legitimate prescription pills - such as Oxycontin®, Percocet®, Vicodin®, Adderall®, Xanax®, and other medicines-and have been found in every state in the country. Criminal drug networks are harnessing the accessibility of social media and e-commerce to push deadly drugs into American communities and lure youth. Cartels and distributors continue to perfect this poison to distribute, addict, and deceive.
Mark your calendars! Wednesday, September 4th, Bristlecone will have a fundraiser at Chipotle from 5 - 9p at 925 W 5TH ST STE 100, RENO, NV, 89503. Tell your friends and coworkers to join us for dinner!
Remember that you are SO WORTH IT!
Happy Relaxation Day! Self-care is one of the most important parts of recovery. Self-care involves taking care of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health to promote wellness. Do something for yourself today!
IF YOU THINK FENTANYL CAN'T AFFECT YOUR FAMILY, THINK AGAIN. FENTANYL IS KILLING THE UNSUSPECTING EVERY DAY!
Over 300,000 Americans have died of drug overdose and fentanyl poisoning in just a few years, from 2020 to the present. Fentanyl deaths are projected to increase in the years ahead. Children under 14 are dying of fentanyl poisoning faster than any other age group. Fentanyl continues to be the number one killer of adults 18-45. Fentanyl-related deaths occur approximately every five minutes, and DEA reports that at least 7 in 10 counterfeit pills are deadly. Illicit fentanyl is devastating every socioeconomic class. If you think illicit fentanyl can't impact your family, we urge you to reconsider.

We love this organization! Go give them a follow!
Last week, EMPOWERED in Northern Nevada's Brittany Bailey-Duran, Care Coordinator, and Velvet Beaman, Program Coordinator, participated in the workforce and wellness fair hosted by Bristlecone Family Resources. The event was for current clients and the community to receive resources and information. The EMPOWERED Northern Nevada Team had an amazing time meeting with the community partners and connecting with people within the community!

Meet Olivia, a CADC here at Bristlecone. Olivia has been with Bristlecone for almost three years and specializes in CBT, relapse prevention, cognitive restructuring, and psycho-education. If you know Olivia, you know she is one of the most straight-up, steady, and talented counselors you will ever meet. She loves working with the clients here at Bristlecone, and it shows in the daily work she does! When Olivia isn't working, she is spending time with her daughter and pursuing her Masters degree. We are so thankful to have Olivia on our team and the laughter she brings to our office.

SilverSummit Healthplan came in a few weeks for a Lunch and Learn to update our clinical team on the benefits our SilverSummit clients can receive. We were blown away by the amazing offerings and how well SilverSummit cares for its members! Thank you for bringing us lunch and teaching us about the great things you are doing!
We can't express how much it means to be part of a community where local businesses want to support nonprofits. If you have a moment, please write something about us on the Sheels post (not this post) and mention Bristlecone Family Resources in the comment. Thank you so much!

Meet Michael, one of our Peer Recovery Support Specialists with years of sobriety and the most incredible heart to see people succeed in their recovery journey. Mike is a PRSS Supervisor in addition to all the other things he does here at Bristlecone. When Mike isn't working, he spends time with his beautiful wife and kids. We are honored that Mike oversees our TL program and gives so much to the clients here.

Meet Nicole, one of our amazing CADC-I/CPGC-I here at Bristlecone. Nicole lights up any room she walks into and has a special presence about her. As she works on her master's degree practicum, she runs many of Bristlecone's outpatient groups and our intensive outpatient program on Fridays. Nicole has a heart for working with people struggling with substance use and gambling disorders, as she knows how society often stigmatizes people who are struggling. We are so lucky to have Nicole here with us, caring for our clients, advocating for them, and showing them the path to recovery! ❤️
We are incredibly honored to be among the other recipients of Microsoft's 16th annual IT Makeover Campaign. Congrats to the other recipients!

Where change happens one life at a time
For much of the last century, drug, alcohol, and gambling addictions were viewed as personal and moral failings rather than the result of a disease that alters both biology and behavior and is dependent on complex cultural, social, and genetic variables. While the initial path to addiction is often voluntary, over time an individual’s ability to choose becomes so compromised that their addiction takes over virtually every aspect of their lives. We now know that treating the disease of addiction takes much more than simply good intentions and a strong will. Addiction is, in spite of its complexity, a treatable disease and that treatment must be as multifaceted as the disease itself.
The average annual income of Bristlecone clients is less than $10,000 per year, making access to treatment virtually impossible without assistance. Nevada’s uninsured rate is 14%, with some areas being as high as 23% of individuals without health insurance. The average cost per day for in-patient treatment is $150, the average cost of outpatient treatment is $145 per week. Bristlecone relies on community funds to ensure treatment of clients who are uninsured and financially unable to pay for treatment and clients seeking treatment can access services immediately while awaiting insurance approval to prevent gaps in services.
We also rely on the generosity of the community to help us cover unexpected costs such as repairing the facility's roof that is starting to leak, sending our staff to trainings so we can provide the most comprehensive and successful treatment possible, an exterminator for sudden bed bugs, and specific work attire for clients re-entering the workforce.
