🐝 We had an incredible turnout of 47 attendees at the Countess Dandini Garden for the Pollinator Garden Tour, organized by the University of Nevada, Reno Extension!

🌼 Huge shoutout to our Washoe County volunteers for helping share the garden's history, TMCC's role as a Bee Campus USA, and the importance of native plants and pollinators.

🌱 Plus, visitors got hands-on with iNaturalist and learned how to reduce pesticide use to protect our buzzing friends.

🦇 Discover the World of Bats at TMCC! 🦇

🗺️ Bats are an incredibly diverse group of mammals, with around 1,300 species worldwide and 23 right here in Nevada.

🌙 Due to their nocturnal nature and ability to fly, they can be quite challenging to study. Our undergrad research project uses acoustic monitors to explore the diversity of bat species across our campuses!

🔊 A key aspect of the project is reviewing bat call recordings—a highly sought-after skill for those interested in wildlife studies, also applicable to other animals like birds and frogs. This research helps us gain insights into bat species richness, abundance, and diversity, contributing to our understanding of these fascinating creatures and their role in the ecosystem.
