On Thursday, May 16 I was invited to facilitate a retreat for the Administrative Support Services Staff at the ADAMH Board of Franklin County. I spoke to a group of 10 fellow Administrative Professionals on Cultivating Resilience in the Workplace.
Angela, the Facilitator?!?! YES!!! That's me. I was nervous, but how can you be nervous when you are speaking your truth and sharing your experiences with others to help them as well. When was the last time you stood up? I have to ask myself that question daily, it's so easy to find ourselves glued to our desks for hours on end. Remember to take regular breaks to get up and at 'em at least every hour โณ
What is time blocking?
Time blocking is a planning method that divides your day into smaller blocks of time. During each block of time, you focus on a single task or a group of similar tasks. Now, how to time block:
โก๏ธ Decide what you care about most
The answer to this question will inform what appears on your time blocking calendar. As well as the relative weight you give those scheduled items.
โก๏ธ Create a to-do list
Be sure to include both personal and work tasks. Schedule mandatory tasks first. Any high-priority task should be at the top of your to-do list.
โก๏ธ Practice task batching
Task batching is when you do a bunch of similar tasks at once. With task batching, you can break your larger task down and do each smaller task separately.
โก๏ธ Try day theming
Day theming is a more advanced form of time blocking. Not only do you batch smaller tasks together, but you create a specific theme for your entire day as well. This allows you to focus on larger areas of your business.
โก๏ธ Use timeboxing
Timeboxing is simply blocking out a specific unit of time within your calendar to do a future task.

Figure out how youโre currently spending your time. If youโre going to optimize your time management, you first need to figure out where the time is going.

Create a daily schedule. Before you leave work for the day, create a list of the most pressing tasks for the next day. This step allows you to get going as soon as you get to the office.

Prioritize wisely. As you organize your to-do list, prioritization is key for successful time management at work. Start by eliminating tasks that you shouldnโt be performing in the first place. Then identify the three or four most important tasks and do those first, that way you make sure you finish the essentials.

Group similar tasks together. Save yourself time and mental energy by trying to complete all of one type of to-do before moving on to the next.

On January 27, 2023 there was a conference hosted by Dawn Tyler Lee. Live2Lead 2023 was the inaugural conference hosted by Forrest Street Consulting. My timeline was FLOODED with photos from said event. Everyone I knew was in that room!!!! I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed that I didnโt know about it. I have admired this woman, her poise and professionalism, for a very long time.
