Angelica hit her 100th workout this past week!!
What impresses me the most about Angelica is her commitment to moving forward with her health and her pursuit of understanding why to do something.
She always shows up to our calls and sessions eager to learn, move, and be honest with how she’s feeling and where she’s at that given day.
And also committed relentlessly to moving forward with her health and getting stronger.
Way to hit the 100 mark, and it’s a continued joy to work with you, Angelica!
Here’s to another 100!
𝙀𝙭𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙐𝙥𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚!!!
I wanted to take a moment and share an update going on in my personal training and health coaching business - Northern Strength!
For the past couple years, I’ve been primarily working with and seeking to serve busy moms and dads who are seeking to create generational health.
And, that has been an extremely fun experience that has allowed me to serve many parents - helping them become healthier, stronger, and more confident. All while reducing and overcoming their pains and injuries.
These experiences have allowed me to narrow down WHO I know I can best help, and what sort of ways I can serve them best.
Which brings me to the exciting update!
I’m now exclusively serving and working with:
Twin Cities Area Moms and Dads who are seeking to:
⛔ Stop neglecting their own health and well-being,
⚡ Overcome long-term aches and pains, and
🏃🏽♀️ Revive their athleticism and strength.
But, I want to make this as easy as possible for them!
I’ve created a program that they can perform entirely AT HOME and ONLINE. I’ll literally ship them adjustable dumbbells so they have a fantastic starting point for their home gym.
AND all I’m asking for them to begin with is 90 minutes in their week.
So, if you or anyone you know would be interested in talking with me about what it could look like to start this up and work together, let me know!
And no, this isn’t a limited time offer 😀.
This is what I do all the time.

Both Kyle and Greg hit some big milestones last week.
Kyle notched his 250th workout, and Greg hit his 100th workout!
What I appreciate most about each one of these guys is that working out and caring for their body and their health is now something they do every week.
If they don’t get it done, something feels off in their weekly and daily rhythm.
They pepper me with questions about how to get stronger, improve their form on movements, and make sure they’re doing things correctly.
And that curious approach, along with commitment to their programs each week has made them much stronger than they’ve ever been.
When both of them came to me, they had little to no experience with weights at all.
Now they’ve made significant progress and have become much healthier as a result.
Give them a hand!!
I've made a guide (and video) outlining how to make a family meal plan for an entire month...
Who wants it? 👇🏽

Trainer Tip!
Form check. Use your phone to video your form and assess it yourself, or ask a professional for some advice!
This was the first set of a 3x3 heavy deadlift set. You can already see my back is having the subtlest little curve.
Once I observed this,
1️⃣ I took longer rests between sets.
2️⃣ Recorded my final set to see breakdown at max fatigue.
3️⃣ Next week I’ll also keep the weight the exact same rather than try to increase. Slow and steady is the name of the game.
Need a form check or have a question? Shoot me a video and I’ll gladly offer some input!

Trainer Tip
I’ve recently been teaching more of my clients to think about their deadlifts in two parts.
This has made a huge difference in how they protect the muscles of the lower back while recruiting the stronger muscles we want to target in the posterior chain instead.
If you think this tip is helpful, go ahead and try my Black Friday mini sessions! They come in 3 packs and YOU get to choose our focus.
2 for $55
4 for $100
6 for $135
We can work on something particular you would like help with - trainee's choice!
This is an alternating dumbbell power clean.
It’s a small example of something you could choose to learn if you purchased some of my mini sessions before Black Friday!
I mean, you could literally choose whatever you want to focus on during these, and there’s no commitment beyond the sessions you purchase.
2 for $55
4 for $100
6 for $135
*By anything, I mean almost anything. I don’t know everything… If I can’t do it, I’ll tell you! 😂

Happy Veterans Day to all those who have served or are currently serving. From the bottom of our hearts, we are grateful for the sacrifice and effort you have put forth to serve and protect us.
On Tuesday morning, my wife and I tag teamed the workout in memorial of Chad Wilkinson and countless other veterans who have taken their lives due to the effects of PTSD, TBIs or other deployment-related trauma.
It was a small challenge to take on in honor of Chad and many others, and I hope by sharing this, bring some awareness to veteran su***de prevention.

2021 Client Appreciation Night!
Some of you asked what on earth all that chicken in last night’s story was being made for… and no, I wasn’t meal prepping for 2 weeks... That was a small piece of me saying THANK YOU to all of my awesome clients!
Northern Strength exists to get people stronger and empower all areas of life.
That wouldn’t be possible without clients!
All of these wonderful people and others showed up last night to be fed, get some swag, and play Trainer Trick or Treat (they win either way!).
From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU again for working with me this past year. It is so much fun to work with each of you, and I’m extremely proud of the progress you’ve all made.
Next year, I promise to take more photos :)

Here’s a simple tip to protect your lower back during almost any standing movement.
1️⃣Find a straight rod or dowel of some sort.
2️⃣ Align between shoulder blades and tailbone.
3️⃣ Proceed to hinge or squat while keeping both points of contact.
4️⃣ Repeat this as a warm up prior to deadlifting or squatting if lower back stability is an issue for you.
Let me know what you find out!
I love glutes!
Seriously, I do. I’m always telling clients to engage them, and helping them ‘find’ their glutes.
Here’s a new tip I’ve learned that can help activate them during a squat - a movement in which many people struggle to use them fully.
Can you do this?
Like working out together for a good cause?
Join myself and many others for Hills for Hope - a fitness fundraiser.
Put on by , this event serves to physically challenge people while also raising awareness and money for a ministry that supports families grieving the loss of their children.

July 28, 5:30-7:00am at Hyland Hills. I misspoke in the recording on the date.
At Northern Strength, I do all I can to meet each person where they’re at in their exercise journey.
This means I’ll listen to you, make adjustments where needed, and do all I can to aid in helping you achieve your goals.

Trainer Tip Tuesday - Have a plan. And a plan b. And a plan c.
Not pictured - this little one screaming her little self silly in her crib 10 mins prior.
I’m learning part of being a parent means having a plan a, plan b, plan c and so on and so forth.
Yesterday, this little girl opted to interrupt my workout with some screaming from her crib during naptime. After she spent a while going back and forth and in and out of sleep, I realized she could just come watch me workout in her stroller. Which she did.
AND she thought observing me suffering and grunting was hilarious (takes after her mother), and decided to give me her first ever burst of laughter.
All of a sudden, this ‘interruption’ was made entirely worth it (it was already worth it anyways). And, from 3 months of age, she’s learning to see her parents being healthy and active.
There is no perfect plan, there are just multiple ways to accomplish the same outcome. In the end, the workout was done, Addy was happy, and so was daddy.
