During this session Michelle and Jennifer will share their experiences and ah-ha moments that have been helpful in parenting a child with a disability.
SESSION TITLE:
If I Knew Then What I Know Now: The Ah-Ha Moments That Made a Difference
SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Raising a child (regardless of age) with a disability often comes with a steep learning curve and decisions that must be made to help your child live a meaningful life – one with hopes and dreams for now and in the future. This session was created by experts in the trenches – parents who are raising a child with a disability. During this session they will share their experiences, ah-ha moments, and resources that helped them embrace the journey, find their people, see past attitudinal barriers, and challenge the status quo.

FEAT-NT is proud to partner with Unlocking Autism, a 501c3, nonprofit organization established in Louisiana 25 years ago. You can make a difference in autism research by taking just 7 minutes of your time to complete what could be a life-changing questionnaire for you and your family.
Unlocking Autism (UA) is working with Maria DeRoche, on her LSU Graduate School Thesis Project to conduct a public relations research project regarding the MTHFR genetic variant, which is highly prevalent in ASD and ADHD/ADD communities with a direct impact on physical, mental, and behavioral health.
This research aims to gather data and create an awareness campaign and MTHFR Toolkit to reach families affected. The survey will be used to help us make a difference in the national mental/behavioral health community. To take this survey you must be 18 years or older to participate.

What is the A Look Ahead (ALA) Quarterly Mini Conference Series about & why should I attend? We're glad you asked. It has been said that the best way to predict the future is to create it! And we could not agree more!!!
Parents of children with disabilities need to put more effort into planning for the future than parents of children who do not have a disability. And parents of children with disabilities need to start with that planning earlier than most. As you develop a vision for the future you will also need to create a plan and take steps to make that vision a reality. As you consider what needs to be done there will be many new things to think about, decisions to be made and tools, tips, and resources to help you make them. Are you prepared? Is your child? Do you know everything you need to know? Think you have time to think about the future tomorrow, next week or next year? You are not alone! But you should know this: the future is coming, and all decisions made today will have an impact on the future! What impact will your decisions have? Will they bring you closer to the vision or will they move you away from it?
Whether your child just received a diagnosis, or will transition into adulthood next year, the time to educate yourself on what is possible and begin thinking about and planning for the future is NOW! It’s never too early; or too late to look ahead!
This is where the A Look Ahead Quarterly Mini Conference Series comes in. Established in August 2015 (and held quarterly since) the Series brings together experts/movers and shakers in the disability field to share knowledge, lived experiences, tips, tools, strategies, possibilities, and resources to help create a meaningful life for a person with a disability.
Now, you don’t have to take our word for it. Look at what others are saying...
“Thank you for bringing together the full life-cycle of areas a person w/IDD faces with information from experts.”
“Presentations given were relevant and meaningful to me with lots of content to research afterwards along with actions to take immediately.”
“This is truly the best conference I have been to in a long time. Information was precise and on point. Speakers were on target and easy to talk to and fun to listen to.”
“I can say if it wasn’t for the conferences and all involved I would be at a loss. I think we are all very blessed to have such a wonderful community of people who give of their knowledge and time to educate us all.”
“Thank you for offering this! As a professional, I was excited to get to receive more information from local people/organizations.
Everyone had so much to offer and the information was all valuable. I will be attending again!”
“This is one of the best run and highest quality of events of this type I have attended in a long time. It was well worth my drive from Wylie, TX. I hope my calendar permits attendance at others that are planned. Thank you to the sponsors and planners for making this event well worth giving precious Saturday time to attend.”
