Welcome to Amon Creek, Ms. Hutchison!

An experienced Kennewick School District administrator has been named the new assistant principal at Amon Creek Elementary.

Tammy Hutchison will take over as assistant principal for Brian Massey, who will become Amon Creek’s new principal.

“We are excited to have Tammy join the outstanding staff of Amon Creek Elementary School,” stated Brian Massey. “She brings great experience in building relationships, supporting teachers and a real passion for doing what’s best for kids. These qualities will help us continue to serve the Amon Creek community at the highest level.”

Hutchison has served as an assistant principal at Horse Heaven Hills Middle School for the past 11 years. Prior to administration, she was a teacher at Desert Hills Middle School for 16 years. She has also coached high school high school girls basketball and softball at both the middle and high school levels.

She earned a bachelor’s in education from Eastern Washington University, and a master’s in education and administration credentials from Heritage University.

A familiar face at Amon Creek Elementary has been named its next school leader.

Brian Massey has been selected as the next principal. Massey has served as the assistant principal of the school since it’s opening in 2018. Prior to Amon Creek, he served as an assistant principal at Cascade Elementary. In total, he has 27 years of experience working as an educator and building leader.

“Brian Massey has been a part of Amon Creek Elementary since it opened and he brings a deep understanding of the staff, families and programs,” stated Rob Phillips, assistant superintendent of elementary education. “We look forward to the positive impact he will have on student learning for years to come.”

Massey earned a bachelor’s of arts in education and a master’s of science in educational leadership from Washington State University.

Is making schools safer important to you?

If the levy passes on Feb. 14, the district will add three school resource officers to middle schools and a school safety officer to every elementary school. This means that all elementary, middle and high schools will have safety coverage.

Take our family engagement survey!

Our goal is for all families to be key partners in their child’s education. We are seeking input on how to best engage families in their child’s learning. We invite you to complete a survey to provide your input.

Questions focus on the content students are learning and how your child's school is doing in providing resources to help your child, connecting your family to community resources, and other important areas of engagement.

This survey also contains additional questions for families with graduating seniors.

The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, May 27.

If you have more than one child, please take a survey for each of your children's schools. If there is a question you are unsure about or does not apply to your experience, you may skip it. Your participation is appreciated and your feedback is valued.

Now that the cold weather is here, we want to remind you about our procedures for delaying or canceling classes (https://bit.ly/3sGQ9nK) – and about how we communicate these decisions to families.

When the district is deciding whether to delay or cancel classes because of inclement weather, several factors are considered, including:

-Road conditions and the ability of buses, families and staff members to get to school safely.

-Ability of school district maintenance crews to clear parking lots, bus loops and sidewalks around the schools.

-Worsening weather conditions and the forecast.

*Timing of Delay or Closure Announcements*

We make every effort to notify our community of a two-hour delay or closure by 6 a.m. As soon as a decision is made, information is posted on the district website at www.ksd.org. In most cases, if there is no notification by 6 a.m., classes will follow a regular schedule.

It is possible that a two-hour delay may change to a closure due to worsening road conditions. A final decision will be made by 7:30 a.m. If there is a change, an updated notification will be sent out.

*School Alerts & Notifications*

The school district sends out phone, email and text alerts to families when classes are canceled or delayed. Please make sure to update your information in your PowerSchool (https://ps.ksd.org/public/) account so that you receive these important notifications.

-----
