Chandeliers should be low over tables, closer to eye level. Also the ceiling is a 5th wall, and should be seen as having equal potential for a wall covering, or color, or whatever your vision is.⁠

I’m a big researcher and reader, so I just consumed design magazines like nobody’s business! I’ve spent countless hours at the Decoration and Design Building in New York, and traveling around colorful and inspiring places like the Caribbean and Paris.⁠

💡 How do you use lighting to make a statement?⁠
Lighting is everything, it’s what makes someone want to be in a space. So we go for the 3 combination rule, a statement piece, recessed lighting, and task lighting. But for the statement I love to go all out. A beautiful fixture can really be the central variable of the design and bringing it to eye level makes it actually noticeable.⁠

💡 What design element from your childhood bedroom or home gives you the most nostalgia?⁠
My grandmother had crocheted doilies everywhere. I remember one specifically in her bathroom that had a barbie doll whose doily skirt would cover the extra toilet paper. She would stick them in sugar water to make them stiff. Not my style, but I’ll never forget it.⁠

I think like most people I’ve developed my design aesthetic from what brings me the most joy. I’ve learned that lots of stuff and clutter stress me out. I like designing with lots of negative space so that the objects I love the most have room to breathe and shine. ⁠

I love that color is making a comeback! Color drenching is one of my favorite ways to make a big design statement!⁠

I grew up in a tiny white farmhouse with a green roof in the middle of soybean and watermelon fields in rural Oklahoma. I remember my Mom ripping out all of the carpets and refinished the hardwood floors with a coat of paint. She painted the whole house from top to bottom in white and it was a classic that still resonates with me today. ⁠
