I am a full time teacher at White Hall Elementary School, but love to get in a great workout anytime I can. And everything's more fun with friends, so join me sometime! My Fitness Background:
In 2006, I began training to be a fitness instructor. After teaching Toning, Step, Kickboxing, Cycling and Boot Camp classes at Transylvania University and EKU, I found Yoga. Yoga felt so natural to me becau
Do you struggle to get comfortable with yoga? A Mat-less Salty Yoga class might just be the class for you! 🤪 *no kids allowed 😂😇

A sense of adventure welcome!}
📸 My husband snapped this picture a few weeks ago while I was sequencing an inversion class, trying to fly under radar in my kids’ playroom. Unsuccessfully.

I really enjoyed the Pilates training I attended this weekend. 🙌🏻
It brought back lots of memories of a Pilates session at a FitFest from many years ago. In many Yoga classes I still say “this is a Pilates inspired movement” and I so look forward to saying that more now.
It has been interesting to read some of his writing from the early 20th century and consider how Joseph Pilates has also had an influence on Yoga. (Ironically, I just shared an article with my EKU Students about how westernized Yoga developed and became popular - at the same time Pilates was developing his exercise regime he called Contrology.) As his program has improved with a modern understanding of anatomy and physiology, many of his personal convictions about fitness remain fitness truths.
Of course I spent the weekend envisioning this picture of my grandmother from a Des Moines newspaper article… reminiscing about all the Hundreds I have done post partum through the years… and taking screenshots from some of Pilates original writing… can’t help but nerd out about fitness stuff sometimes. 🤓🧘🏻♀️
We’ll be back in the salt soon! 🧘🏻♀️✨

Yoga is such a wonderful form of fitness. But I love Pilates, too! The two forms of exercise complement each other so well. Any other Pilates fans out there?
Next weekend, I’ll be attending a mat Pilates instructor training with my friend Rebecca Kelly of Vivacity Fitness: A Pilates Studio. There are still a few more open spots if anyone else would like to join us!

👩🏻🏫 My name is Laura Martin and I have been teaching Yoga since 2008. I am so thankful for the many opportunities Yoga has provided through the years. But I’m also a teacher. I like to joke and say that “Back to School” is my favorite holiday. I have an education degree from EKU and have taught at the elementary school level throughout the last 15 years as a classroom teacher, reading interventionist at a public school and in a part time role at a private school in our town. I’ve even had the opportunity to teach in a very special homeschool co-op to some very sweet kids in kindergarten all the way to high school. And now I am so thankful and just plain old excited to get to sign my name on the line next to “professor.” I mean, we all know I’m not that, but that’s what the contract said. 😜
🧘🏻♀️I am a little too excited to be on a college campus in August and experience my favorite time of the year as a college instructor! Let’s do some Yoga, friends!
✅ The Add/Drop period ends on August 26, so there’s still time to join! 🤩 Woo-hoo!
📸 Also, I totally sent my students this picture of our family today so they would recognize me at school. But then I felt silly, because this isn’t first grade! 🤭
There’s still a little bit of room left for Salty Yoga on Tuesday at 6! 🧘🏻♀️✨
Come dig your toes into our 3500 lbs of Himalayan salt as you challenge yourself in a no-mat yoga class with our favorite instructor, Laura Martin!
Heeeeey EKU Friends! Happy August!!! “Back-to-school” ✏️📓🍎 is one of my favorite holidays! And I am really looking forward to sharing this season with a new group of college students!
If you know any EKU students looking for one more credit, send them to Yoga! 🧘🏻♀️😂

In 11 years on this quiet little corner of the internet, I still only have pictures to post if my husband snaps them while I do Yoga in the kitchen. 🫣😅 Sometimes I love the footprints we leave on social media. I sure can’t eat like that anymore! 🤣
I wouldn’t have remembered about this little milestone without FB. A lot has happened in 11 years. I recently started a Yoga class by listing all of the times that Yoga has been there for me. I was sort of being silly by personifying Yoga; but seriously, Yoga has brought people & places, peace, strength and a sense of well being to my life during a very full season.
{I bought a little set of yoga flash cards for my EKU classes. 🤓 When I introduce a new pose each week, I lay out the card next to our sign in area. Sometimes students pick it up to glance over it. As an elementary reading teacher, we are trained to prep our students for a new concept by building their background knowledge. So, I guess this has become my little way of bringing my love of elementary reading skills to college students… 🤔😂 but I really do think that letting them see the image before hand has been helpful… maybe anyway? And this summer, I have really enjoyed planning classes using little stacks of the cards.}
☀️ Wrapping up our summer Pop-up classes with one last Tuesday evening class! Join us on Tuesday, August 6 at 6pm.
🗓️ Since it’s National Wiggle your Toes Day, join us for a mat-less class so you can really enjoy the sensory experience in the salt room. Hand towels provided! You’ll even receive a free salty foot soak to enjoy at home.
✨ Class time is moving to 6pm, since that magic hour might be better for some as the school year begins. That’s right, friends, watch for a consistent schedule in September and October!
🧘🏻♀️🧘🏼♀️ Not sure if this class is for you? Good news, it is! This is a great class for yoga beginners or folks that want to experience the salt room for the first time. Let us know if it’s your first class and we’ll make sure to give you a tour of the space!

Yoga at Chenault Vineyards is lovely every time!! The grapes on the path out to the point are too pretty to pass by without snapping a picture. 😇
Thank you so much to all of the Richmond yoga folks that joined us for class last night! It’s always so fun to see yoga friends from years ago and meet new folks that are beginning their journey with confidence and excitement. And a huge thank you to the crew at Chenault for providing such a fun opportunity for fitness in Madison County! 🧘🏻♀️🍇 I always say I teach yoga because it brings me so much joy, and that’s so easy to experience when you’re out on the point at Chenault Vineyards!
Jenn Jenn will be back next week folks!
