It’s not every day you get to meet a former NBA athlete and even fewer when you find out they’re also your neighbor. Just one of many glimmers from an incredible weekend at the Vis10n conference this week. So thankful for the opportunity to meet so many incredible speakers, like Calvin Duncan, and be a part of an inspiring event and inspiring company.

Today is Public Domain Day.

When a creative work’s copyright expires, it enters the public domain – meaning anyone can legally use or reference that work without permission. The legal transition of copyright works into the public domain usually happens every year on 1 January based on the individual copyright laws of each country.

This year in the United States, the earliest incarnation of Mickey Mouse enters the public domain through “Steamboat Willie,” an animated short film that served as the character’s debut. “Steamboat Willie” is accompanied by literary works “The House at Pooh Corner,” which introduced the character Tigger, “Lady Chatterley’s Lover,” “An American in Paris,” and more.

Around the world, other creations also enter the public domain, including the poem “Do not go gentle into that good night,” by Dylan Thomas, and the compositions of Romani-French jazz icon Django Reinhardt, most famous for the 1937 tune “Minor Swing”.

Nature is healing. The chicken bones are returning to their natural habitat.

Violet is a rescue. And a scared cat. She doesn’t like to be held and she damn sure will never sit on your lap of her own accord. But 3 years later, she’ll tolerate me putting her on my lap. She won’t make me pet her the whole time to stay put. She’ll exist for a moment or two in time with me. And as much as I might want a super cuddly cat who jumps into my lap and likes to cuddle with me til I fall asleep, I’d pick these fleeting moments of trust between the two of us any day over an “easy” cat who just wants to be loved.
