Nationz Foundation’s Story
Three years ago, community advocate and black transgender woman Zakia McKensey fulfilled a long time dream by opening Nationz Foundation; a 501(C)3 organization dedicated to creating and sustaining a healthier LGBTQIA+ community in central Virginia. Since opening, Nationz Foundation has begun offering many services, programs, and resources both in the office and in community. When we’re in our office at 4794 Finlay St, Suite One, Richmond, VA 23231, we provide sexual health materials, emergency housing for LGBTQIA+ folx experiencing houusing instability, a food pantry, and three different support groups serving trans-feminine people, trans-masculine people, and people living with HIV. In office we also offerr a computer lab available during our regular hours of 11AM-6PM & Monday Night Madness, an informal space for people to kick-it and build community from 6-9PM. We also provide FREE Rapid HIV tests during our office hours.
While a lot of our work occurs in our office, our favorite thing to do is be out in community! Every week we take our mobile testing unit to communities isolated from services and resources to bring free rapid HIV tests, condoms & sexual health materials, and food pantry items. We can also be found tabling at events for the LGBTQ community in Richmond, hosting events, workshops & trainings, programs and just creating space for q***r people to be together.
