Virginia Bio is the statewide non-profit organization that promotes the scientific and economic impact of the life sciences industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Approximately 220 biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device companies are based in Virginia, mainly clustered around universities in Blacksburg, Charlottesville, Richmond, Norfolk and Northern Virginia.

In his new Richmond Times-Dispatch opinion, Virginia Bio CEO John Newby urges Congress to advance critical legislation that would reform the anti-competitive practices of pharmacy middlemen, known as pharmacy benefit managers or . The Virginia Bioscience Foundation extends a big THANK YOU to participants LifeNet Health, Landstown High School, the Virginia Department of General Services-Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services, and Varina High School for collaborating on a Virginia funded pilot program, called Life Science Virginia, to build interest in life science careers by engaging industry scientists with high school students. Activities included hands-on laboratory experiments, tours and career talks. All the participants plan to continue the program in the fall.
