She has made great progress during her stay. Her care team has helped her to reset each day to focus on her goals. Kristen recently walked her longest distance yet, right into the arms of her husband. There was not a dry eye in the hallway. "This was the best birthday present I could have, you alive and walking," her husband said to her. Kristen wants to thank her amazing care team, especially her therapists, for pushing her but also knowing her limits. She said she would recommend Encompass Health to anyone needing rehabilitation.

At 34-years-old, Danielle Easley, a single mom of three, had a stroke. She was told by her medical team at the hospital that she would never walk, talk or be able to take care of herself again. Upon arrival at our rehabilitation hospital in Parkersburg, West Virginia, she couldn't do any of those things. She required a Hoyer lift to get out of bed and could not complete a simple task such as scratching her nose. With dedication and hard work, Danielle beat the odds.
She never gave up and pushed herself beyond measure. Danielle was known by everyone at our hospital, even other patients. She was an inspiration to us all and the definition of success. At discharge, she proudly walked out of the hospital with a walker.
We are so proud of you, Danielle! Thank you for trusting us with your care. Find an Encompass Health location near you to learn how our rehabilitation experts can help you get back to what matters most after a stroke or other injury or illness: https://ehc.rehab/456VKFb

There is no better way to celebrate our patients' recoveries than the ringing of the independence bell. Heyward “Hank” Robertson was admitted to our Columbia, South Carolina location after an extended hospital stay. His therapy team had a great time working with him and watching his improvement, but perhaps our favorite part of his stay was when he rang the bell and walked out of our hospital. Congratulations, Hank, on your recovery!

Lisa was hit by a truck as she was crossing the street one day after work. She had a traumatic brain injury and was hospitalized for two months. When she came to our rehabilitation hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas, she had a long recovery ahead of her, but our staff met her with encouragement and support.
With the help of physical therapy, Lisa went from not being able to sit up on her own to walking with a walker. Her occupational therapist helped her relearn how to dress herself, and speech therapists helped her with swallowing. With the help of all of those at Encompass Health, Lisa was able to gain confidence in herself after a devastating accident.
Since her discharge, Lisa and her family visit Encompass Health regularly to show their thanks to our staff for their dedication. Lisa is still on the road to recovery, but she is now able to walk on her own with a cane, enjoy regular life with her friends and family and play with her new puppy, Spruce.
