It’s the most poignant type of pain: If you didn’t love someone so deeply, it wouldn’t hurt so much to lose them. You can’t have love without grief, nor grief without love.
Armed Forces Day – Observed on the third Saturday every May, this is a day dedicated to paying tribute to men and women currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Today, let us pause to recognize the profound impact of our armed forces on our nation's history and security. Their service ensures that the freedoms we cherish remain strong and enduring. Happy Armed Forces Day!
Virtual funeral tip - Dress appropriately even you are just attending funeral service virtually. We would like to also suggest that keep the camera on as it shows a certain level of respect. Virtual funerals have become more common, especially with the restrictions on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although Covid-19 hasn't been quite the factor it was initially, Virtual services allow people to participate in memorial services, pay their respects, and offer support to grieving loved ones from a distance. While they may lack the physical presence and comforting touch of traditional funerals, virtual ceremonies can still provide a meaningful way for people to come together and honor the memory of the deceased.

Here are our three top tips for what to do if you are unable to attend a funeral service for a friend or a loved one.
1) Ask if the service will be recorded or streamed online.
2) Write a note to encourage the family and friends who have lost a loved one.
3) Give a sympathy gift.
Families will understand if you are unable to be present but you can always check in with a phone call, text, or note through social media letting them know you are thinking of them. The process of grief will last a long time. Continue to support your friends and family members.

Here are (3) Three Thoughtful Ways to Comfort Grieving Friends and Family:
1) The Power of Presence: Being there for someone who is grieving is often more impactful than finding the perfect words. Simply offering your presence and a listening ear can provide immense comfort. Share memories, stories, and moments that celebrate the life of the departed.
2) Sending a Thoughtful Condolence Card: A heartfelt condolence card can convey your deepest sympathies when words might fail you. Take the time to write a personalized message, sharing your love and support. Expressing your genuine feelings can bring solace to those in mourning.
3) Offering Practical Support: Grieving individuals may find it challenging to manage daily tasks. Offer practical support by providing meals, helping with household chores, or taking care of errands. Small gestures can make a significant impact during such a difficult time.
However you plan to spend your retirement, good nutrition should form an important part of that lifestyle. Especially since the ageing process is one of the risk factors for malnutrition – a condition where your body doesn’t have enough of the nutrients it needs. The risk of malnutrition increases as you age. Factors like dentition, loss of taste, decline in functional ability and illness can affect your food intake. Here are three (3) tips to help you make healthy choices.
1. Increase intake of wholegrains
- This food group provides most of the energy for our daily living. It includes rice, noodles, bread, cereal and potatoes.
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables
- It is important to eat two servings of fruit and two servings of vegetables daily for good health.
3. Don't neglect lean meat, beans, fish and dairy - Older adults are encouraged to consume three daily servings of this food group, of which one serving should come from dairy foods or calcium-fortified foods.
