Franklin Pierce University Department of Theater and Dance
This is not an official page of Franklin Pierce University.
The Theater and Dance Department offered instruction and training to enhance the student's capacity for imaginative and creative thought and action. Majors and minors, from freshmen through seniors, participated in the process of performing, crafting and producing works of theater and dance with the goal of achieving a substantial understanding of the collaborative artistic process.

the insect play
It seems strangely fitting that we are doing an adaptation of Kafka's 'Metamorphosis' next week. And on this bizarre, Kafkaesque night, I am reminded of the opening line from that story : "When Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed into some sort of monstrous insect". Tonight, I am tempted to replace 'Gregor Samsa' with 'America' in that sentence -- and hope I am wrong. (that said, I did just go outside and noticed that the stars are still gorgeous) All the best, everyone. Love and make good art. -- R.L.
I realize I am likely preaching to the choir, but casting your vote for Clinton on Tuesday is critical. And if you happen to be leaning towards not voting, or voting for the Libertarian or Green parties - perhaps as a nod to Bernie Sanders - as much as I understand such inclinations, there is no margin for a protest vote this year -- not to mention that there is zero chance that Bernie's views would be heard in a Trump administration. --- I would like to still be able to recognize my home country on Wed. morning. Thanks.

Column: Theater, once the heart of the university, now faltering | The Exchange 2016 It was intimidating at first, there I was a lonely 18 year old girl walking into an audition where everyone seemed to know each other. There was at least 60 people there, and everyone seemed so comfortable. I’d been on campus an entire semester and had yet to make many friends. Each moment that went…
Dear All -- I've just completed work on a new venture, a series of interlinked short stories I've been working on for the past 8 months. a) give a read - you can find the work on my web site, , the 'Tales of Nicholas Raithe' tab. b) send thoughts, comments (and I'm sure there are some typos), and c) since this is a new arena for me, I'm looking to connect with any publication possibilites/connections anyone might have. Aside from that, I hope everyone is well, and here's to a lovely 2016! --- B.L.

from the depths of the Ravencroft...
Franklin Pierce today released the news that the Ravencroft Theater was to be demolished.
In a press release, it was stated : "The University, acting on the advice of Robert Lawson, Professor of Theatre Arts, consulted with an expert on timber frame structures and it was determined that Ravencroft could not be renovated or salvaged."
Clarification : Professor Lawson did not give any advice on this project, nor was he in the loop on how the decision was made for demolition.

Dear All - I was just informed by the Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival that Cautionary Tale received the Hilton Worldwide Award for distinguished production of a devised (original) work, one of 4 in the country.
Fairly sweet, eh?
So congratulations!

Cautionary Cast : So I think we're back to square 1 on scheduling the recording for this weekend, so let's get more lead time. If I were to say : let's schedule it sometime between Thursday and Sunday, 2/26-3/1, when would be best. I would still be happy to do Saturday morning at 11: if that works for most people that weekend.
Send thoughts. Thanks - - - B.
