The taking of Scotland, in 1320 Scotland had been Scotland for 1000 years, but due to the ever-increasing Anglo Normand nature of the ruling class of Scotland the language of the country began to change.
By 1400 Scotland began to speak English in Scotland and those who spoke Gaelic became scorned by the English and Scottish élite and the Scotts near the centers of power imitating the attitudes of their rulers for social gain. Abandoning Gaelic and developing a dislike for those who still spoke the original language of the Scotts even though in many cases these people were Scotts themselves.
The moment the ethnic Scotts on longer held political power their culture, language and institutions were dismantled aided by the Scotts themselves, who’s primary concern was to adapt to the ruling class and keep their positions. It’s a hard lesson, in how the shift in the ethical character of the elite can change the entire culture of a society.
The mass of society generally follows the trends of those elite and if the ethnic character of that elite changes society will follow them.
