It’s National Accessible Air Travel Day. Two years ago, launched the first National Accessible Air Travel Day to raise
awareness about the need for accessible air travel for people with disabilities!
The Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) requires all airlines to provide assistance with wheelchairs, during boarding and deplaning, and any other assistance that might be required, but many wheelchair users report issues during their travel.
Let’s celebrate a little ! These stretches are great for improving mobility.
Neck Roll - Tuck your chin to your chest and roll your ear to your shoulder.
Shoulder Roll - Put your arms by your side and gently roll your shoulders back 5 times and forward 5 times.
Side Stretch - Sit straight in a chair and raise your arms above your head. Lean to the left for 10-30 seconds and then to the right.
Last month, our technicians Kash & Cody completed an installation for a FlexStep at the West Virginia capitol building.
A FlexStep is a very unique accessibility product that functions as a regular staircase and a wheelchair lift, which is great for areas with limited space!

Baby boomers are exhibiting an overwhelming desire to age in place in their own homes, but their children — largely members of Generation X — are also making their desires felt by seeking out homes that can accommodate their needs as they get older.

Brelynn Bille once had a supervisor who kept leaving items around the office in such a way that it made it difficult for Bille, who uses a wheelchair, to access her office. After multiple conversations about it with no changes, Bille moved all the items into her supervisor’s office and scattered them around the floor, preventing him from getting to his desk. She left a note saying, “If I have to continue to maneuver through barriers because someone else didn’t put away supplies, you will, too.”

A huge shoutout to Canyon who was just promoted to our Lead Ramp Technician! 🎉 Canyon is dedicated to our customers, a great person to work with, and a huge soccer fan!
A recent customer highlighted that Canyon was an amazing technician who took the time to explain the products they were installing and ensured the entire process was great. She had nothing but wonderful things to say about her experience with Canyon and we couldn't agree more. Thanks for everything you do! 💙

Universal design expands upon accessibility as outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act, the 1990 law resulting in wheelchair ramps and lifts being added to buildings and public transit buses and trains. Unlike an accessible multi-story building that may have an elevator at the side of a structure, a universally designed one might start with a series of ramps at the entrance so that a person with mobility challenges doesn’t need to go hunting for an elevator. And instead of retrofitting a building, universal design considers what each person would need for ease of use in the design phase.

Last month, the team participated in the NAMI-Roanoke Valley's Support of Support Resource Fair! It’s a cause that’s close to our hearts - adults with disabilities report experiencing frequent mental distress almost 5 times as often as adults without disabilities. We were honored to spend quality time with so many inspiring individuals and organizations! 💙
“Is that the only entrance?” I explained to her that my son is a wheelchair user and asked how he would enter the playground since I didn’t see a ramp. “We’d have to figure something out,” she said, then resumed the tour.
Students with disabilities should only have to focus on their education. If your school needs some accessibility upgrades before back to school, give us a call!

When Fred is asked about his most memorable of EZ Mobility’s clients, he gives a surprising answer: “My best sales story wasn’t a sale at all.” Fred did an evaluation for a small church where a father and son served as preachers. Both had health issues that limited their mobility. They had a ramp but didn’t know how to install it. Fred, in his free time, did the work. He sees this work as part of a mission that goes back to the very beginning of the company: Our President, David Todd, often talks about his first client, and the joy they both felt when he felt the sun on his face after being trapped indoors for so long. It’s the same feeling I had when I helped that church, and that’s amazing.”
Happy Fourth of July from the EZ Team! We hope our community has a great day filled with food, fireworks, and time spent with friends and family 🇺🇸✨
Please join us in wishing Jerry a very happy birthday!!
Jerry has been with the EZ Mobility Solutions team for nearly 11 years and loves working at EZ Mobility Solutions because it gives him plenty of opportunities to help people. “There’s been so many touching moments. People often cry when they haven’t been out of the house in six months.”
Thank you for all you do, Jerry!
We're not exaggerating when we say that we wouldn't be EZ Mobility Solutions without Lenore! We can't imagine our team without her and appreciate her dedication. 💙
Lenore has been with EZ Mobility Solutions since it operated out of the garage of founder and president, David Todd. She knew she was in the right place even then: “Watching David in those early years, I realized that his passion was contagious. We work a lot with veterans and seeing them be able to go outside and get sun on their faces or get their own mail was transformative.”
According to the University of Michigan, 88% of adults aged 50 and older would prefer to remain in their homes for as long as possible. However, to safely age in place, a senior or their family caregiver may need to consider hiring a certified aging-in-place specialist (CAPS). These professionals have the expertise to help you or your loved one determine if aging in place is feasible.
Curious to learn more about this specialization? Check out this CAPS overview on www.care.com/c/certified-aging-in-place-specialist
Or just reach out to our team - every Mobility Specialist at EZ Mobility Solutions is a CAPS!
For passengers who use a wheelchair, Virginia Tech’s project could be life changing.
Chairs in the Air is a collaboration between Virginia Tech’s student team, Boeing, All Wheels Up, and Collins Aerospace. The team’s Wheelchair Space and Securement System concept would allow passengers with limited mobility to sit securely in their own wheelchairs during flight, reducing the risk of injury and protecting their chairs from damage during stowing.
We love to see this kind of innovation in our home state! www.news.vt.edu/articles/2024/05/CM-Chairs-in-the-air.html
