Dr. Haddad is one of the most recognized dentists in Michigan, partly for his extensive work with TMJ and sleep apnea sufferers. He has never been one to recognize that the word "dentist" means he should limit himself to being a "tooth doctor." Instead, he realized that the body is a complete system with complex interactions that are best understood and treated with a broader perspective.
Sleep apnea symptoms manifest differently when awake and asleep. Though sleep apnea is a condition that occurs when someone is asleep, many indicators can be noted when awake.
If you are experiencing these symptoms, sleep apnea may be the root cause. Book an appointment at https://www.michigantmjandsleep.com/schedule/ to discuss if sleep apnea treatment is right for you.
Oral appliances are much easier to care for than continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines.
Maintaining a clean oral appliance involves simple steps: rinse the appliance right after removing it, then use a soft-bristled brush and hand soap to clean it, and finally, rinse and dry the appliance.

Feeling dizzy or like the world is spinning? It could be vertigo, a common symptom of TMJ.
Vertigo is a sensation of motion or spinning when standing still. People may feel that they are spinning or that the world is spinning around them. Although people often describe vertigo as “dizziness,” the two sensations are distinct.
Vertigo is common in people with temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ or TMD). Perhaps as much as 60% of people with TMJ experience vertigo. A similar proportion of people with vertigo have TMJ.

Sleep apnea is a potentially life-threatening condition that many people endure without knowing they have it! With sleep apnea, symptoms like feeling tired enough during the day to nap and have multiple cups of caffeine, the inability to focus on even simple tasks, being moody, and waking up with headaches every morning are all common. The good news is that you can create healthy sleep habits and treat your sleep apnea.
Part of getting sleep apnea treatment is adhering to recommendations for healthy sleep. Most of all, make sure you're wearing your CPAP or oral appliance whenever you sleep — whether at night or during a nap!

Struggling with frequent headaches? TMJ could be the cause.
Headaches are one of the most common and generalized symptoms, making it hard to track down causes, and sufferers often try many different treatments before finding one that works for them.
We strive to comprehensively evaluate symptoms using an interdisciplinary perspective considering a broad range of possible causes. We do not aim to manage pain with medication but to treat the source of TMJ pain and headaches to get to the root of the problem.

TMJ is not the first thing most doctors think of when reporting tingling fingers. Instead, a doctor will likely want to eliminate other possible causes first, such as:
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Diabetes
• Multiple sclerosis
• Reynaud’s disease
• Vascular disease
• Alcohol abuse
• Stroke
When doctors find that none of these things are the cause, they can assume it’s nothing and stop investigating. What if numb fingers could be a sign of temporomandibular joint disorder, more commonly known as TMJ? One-third of TMJ sufferers report paresthesia of the fingers. Without identifying the correct source, treatments will either be ineffective or will only work for short periods.
Treating the underlying TMJ can reduce or even eliminate the numbness and tingling in fingers resulting from the jaw imbalance. For mild TMJ, periodic TENS treatments may be enough to resolve the problem!
For severe TMJ, there are plenty of non-invasive therapies to try, like a custom bite splint, to retrain your jaw to rest in a position of least tension. If a bite splint effectively solves the problem, you can even have dental restoration done as a more permanent solution.
Schedule a TMJ consultation with us at https://www.michigantmjandsleep.com/schedule/ so we can help relieve TMJ symptoms like tingling fingers!
Is TMJ causing ear Pain? Here's what you need to know.
Ear pain is a very common symptom associated with TMJ disorders. These joints, which connect the jawbone to the skull, are located just in front of each ear.
When overused or injured, these joints may not function properly, and it can affect the nearby ear, leading to various ear-related symptoms such as searing ear pain, ringing in the ears, and ear congestion.

Feeling tired during the day? Don't brush it off as just another part of modern life. It could be a sign of something more serious.
Despite the fatigue that modern life often brings, people with sleep apnea commonly suffer from excessive daytime sleepiness, known as hypersomnia.
There isn’t a hard and fast rule about what constitutes hypersomnia, but struggling to wake up, feeling unrested after over 8 hours of sleep, and experiencing excessive daytime sleepiness may indicate the condition, which could worsen if left untreated.
Schedule a consultation at https://www.michigantmjandsleep.com/schedule/ to get a better understanding of what is causing your fatigue!
