Staff developement at its finest! Here at Suburban Animal Hospital, education is important not only to clients, but to our staff as well. Here you can see the staff practicing CPR on animal models to help fine-tune techniques and strengthen teamwork.
Congratulations to Dr. Levy for not only passing, but earning a 100% on the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care exam! This is a certification aimed towards shaping comfort-oriented care for the beloved furry companions as they approach the geriatric stage.

Starting Monday 8/26/24 Suburban will no longer allow retractable leashes in the office. There will be slip leads at the entrance of the office. If you use a retractable leash, please switch it out with a slip lead we have provided in the vestibule on your way in. Please return it on your way out for the next person to use. Thank you so much for your cooperation and understanding.
Reasons we don’t want retractable leashes in our hospital:
· You have far less control of your pet
o It’s hard to quickly get them away from a dangerous situation
o The locks don’t always hold or are broken
o The handles are hard to hold and can easily be dropped with sudden motion
o When the leashes fall or get dragged along the ground they are loud and scary
· The jerking motion when they run out of leash can cause injury to the pet
· The line is thin and can cause burns, lacerations and/or lead to amputations in severe cases to both pets and people
· They can easily get tangled around the pet, other animals, people, and/or objects
Lastly:
All cats must be in carriers (If you don’t have a carrier, we will provide you with a cardboard carrier for a fee.). This is for everyone’s safety. The vet can be a stressful place It will prevent them from escaping in the event they get scared by something. We don’t want any loose cats in the hospital, the parking lot, and/or in the street. A towel or blanket can be placed over the carrier to reduce visibility and sound, making the cat feel safer. We can also apply Feliway which is a pheromone that helps calm cats, further reducing stress. For information on how to make the carrier less scary at home please visit:
Cat Carrier Follies: How To Help Cats Learn To Love Their Carriers Reading Time: 3 minutes Share onA frenzied flight to a hiding place is a common feline response to the unearthing of a carrier for an imminent trip to the veterinarian. If it weren’t so sad and serious for the cat, we humans might view cat carrier follies as humorous. But the reality is far from e...

Yesterday was my last day of work at the place I call my second home. As usual I was the last one out the door. As I walked around the empty hospital for the final time I reflected upon how blessed I have been. I have been able to work in a field that I love for all of my adult life. There are no words to express how grateful I am for the countless families who have trusted me to care for their beautiful pets. I thank you so very much.
To my team (now and in the past) at Suburban-you are the kindest, compassionate, caring people in the world. Not only do you look out for the wellbeing of our patients and their families but you also take care of each other. We are a family as well. Thank you for looking out for me and helping me through the hard days.
Love to you all! I am sure I will see everyone around. With immense gratitude,
Carolyn Fisher
