We want to thank everyone for fighting for us. To SEGA, SGA and all of the students, faculty, and staff, including members of the administration, we thank you. You are forever in our debt. Thank you for doing what is right. We will see you next semester! Stay safe and happy holidays.
Jacoby Gagliano, Managing Editor, Monroe Doctrine.
Dear Students and Colleagues:
The December 12 edition of the Monroe Doctrine includes an article that reviews the issues related to construction that were the focus of open discussions on campus in mid-November and early December. While there is no new information in the article, the headline may be upsetting to some. If you have concerns about the newspaper’s coverage of the issue, DCC student leaders, faculty, and staff can guide you on appropriate ways to respond. Please remember that as a college and a country, we value a free press and commit to upholding their rights and responsibilities.
As I have communicated on a weekly basis, we are committed to providing a safe environment that is conducive to learning. The DCC community can attest to the spirit of collaboration with the contractors and landlord, and the positive results this has yielded. Those efforts are ongoing. Let me take this opportunity to remind you of the mechanism (form attached) we have in place to report construction disruptions or concerns. This form can be returned to the Executive Dean’s Office, Suite 5-058 or e-mailed to [email protected] remain committed to vigilance and collaboration as we seek to coexist in a multi-use building through the spring 2017 semester.
I am proud of the many students, faculty and staff who have provided leadership in addressing issues encountered in the Sibley Building. I was delighted when SEGA leaders initiated a forum with MCC’s Environmental Health and Safety Department to arm themselves with information about acceptable EPA air and water quality standards so they could become advocates and redirect misconceived notions about DCC’s safety. This is the DCC I have come to know in my time here. Thank you for your commitment to our DCC family.
As always, I encourage you to contact with me with any concerns or questions at [email protected].
Again, I ask all community members to join me in our ongoing commitment to a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment at DCC.
Joel Frater Executive Dean, Damon City Campus
This was sent to students, faculty, and staff. A statement from Joel Frater. We are awaiting confirmation to see if the new issue for the Doctrine was put out before or after this statement was released.
If you are a student at DCC, do not worry. Despite the administrations attempts to censor us and release the paper tomorrow, your student representatives at SEGA are handing out the paper. We work for the students, we at the Doctrine make the decisions if issues go out or if they do not. Please email us if you have any more questions at [email protected]
The construction occurring at the Damon City Campus in the Sibley Building has, according to faculty, staff and students, caused flu-like symptoms, pneumonia, itchy, watery eyes and low morale. Many students question if they will return if the conditions at DCC do not improve. Want the full story? Pick up the new issue on the stands now.
