"I love creating spaces for people who are energized by design and want to invest in unique and beautiful interiors. As a result of collaborating with my clients, they get more than just a design; what I really create is a lifestyle, inspired by their ideas and their surroundings.
My painter Dave, posted this picture he took the day he finished this project. I’m looking forward to having this project professionally photographed but in the meantime a little ‘before and after’ pics to see the transformation. Kitchen Design- Robin Muto. These notes from clients bring me joy in knowing what I create will bring them years of comfort and happiness. Of course the gift boxes filled with gourmet treats are pretty awesome too! At the of a work day I often think that I should have taken some pictures and made a post on instagram. But when I’m on a job site, I’m 100% focused on checking in with my contractors and clients and scrutinizing every detail of progress. I feel very lucky to have such trusting and kind clients and I want to let all my amazingly talented and skillful tradespeople, who care as much as I do about making clients happy, how much I appreciate all their hard work. Cheers to all for a very Happy & Healthy 2024 🥂💫
Trying to edit the carpet selections for a family room that will have 2 amazing swivel chairs covered in this anthropomorphic pattern. My assistant saw this and said ‘ I love that fabric, you need to take a picture and post it.’ So I did
Brunch with fam….gotta love those 3D glasses!
These Dahlias! Waiting all summer for these babies to bloom 😍 and it’s totally worth it.
Adding these island pendants is the finishing touch for this kitchen design. I fell in love them the minute I saw them…I knew they were ‘The Ones’(swipe to see), but I couldn’t decide between the small or the medium size. I added them to my elevation and bingo- the winner was the medium one.
Take a look at the last picture to see what the kitchen looks like now. The room is getting gutted this week so stay tuned to see the new kitchen!
Growing up in Brooklyn, I was fortunate to spend many Sunday afternoons in Manhattan. My most memorable experiences revolve around movies at Radio City Music Hall and ice skating in Rockefeller Center. When my client asked me to create an art deco bathroom, I naturally drew inspiration from these iconic buildings.
To create this room we gutted a small bathroom and opened it up to the adjacent closet, adding a 2 person shower. In the process, I removed all the wood door and window casings and recreated them with ceramic tile. The toilet was in an unsightly position, visible from the adjacent room so I created a half wall for privacy, deep enough to store sundries behind reeded glass doors.
My biggest aha moment with the design was using the double width black pencil liners to create a classic stripe pattern around the perimeter and turning that into a feature wall in the shower which I call ‘The Empire State Building’ motif.

There are many details in this kitchen renovation but my very favorite is the curved structural arch gracefully joining the walls with a pair of custom corbels.

Pike Stained Glass Studio replicated these leaded glass doors to match another pair from the conservatory room which can be seen across the courtyard.
The original radiator is camouflaged by brass grill cabinet doors. After calculating the proportions for the circular banquette, there was enough space to create a small open shelf cabinet for my client’s cookbooks.

Alder wood was chosen for these kitchen cabinets and dark stained oak for the island. My intention was to design a new kitchen for my clients that would look and feel as if it was always there….as is the surrounding apple orchards and vineyards that embody a sense of timelessness.
At the top of the wish list for the new kitchen was to have a ‘juicing bar’ where it would be easy to access the juicer and other small appliances and also keep them out of site when not in use.
My solution was to create a tall upper cabinet with bi-fold doors. The bi-fold 180 degree doors allows the cabinet to be fully accessible. You will also notice that I created ‘U’ shaped shelving around the perimeter so that the tops of the appliances could be easily accessed without having to move them. The interior of the cabinet is white to create a bright and easy to clean work area. And when the juicing is done, the doors close and voila - everything is neat and tidy!
For additional interest the island design was inspired by a big old library table from the NY public library. The large chunky corner posts and extra molding details is intended to give it the look of a piece of furniture. Swipe to see the design and the ‘before’ picture
A place to relax by the fireplace, enjoy the garden view and play the piano. Life is good! Swipe to see the ‘before’.
A sleek yet fun modern kitchen in collaboration with nyc. See the after and before pics .
Another little refresh I recently finished. One of the benefits of hiring and independent interior designer is that you have any store or showroom available to find the perfect products. This little bathroom is part of a guest bedroom which is hardly ever used. If you have a trained eye and know what you’re looking for, you can find some great deals on Wayfair! Would you believe I found this lovely vanity complete with counter and sink and the mirror on Wayfair? My clients house is on a large piece of property in Honeoye Falls, surrounded by farms. The ‘X’ motif on the doors relates to the nearby barns. The rustic wood shelf also relates to the old barns and provides added counter space when needed. When I saw this Penney Tile in navy and browns, I knew it was the perfect floor. You’ll see the ‘before’ bathroom in the last picture. Sometimes the simplest things can make a huge difference ,
Plush and luxe, Gus* Modern’s Nord Sofa envelopes you within its elegant and organic silhouette. This retro aesthetic also embodies a timeless approach to contemporary design balancing clean lines with curved forms

Some after and before pics of a recent project…a fun refresh of ‘the kids’ bathroom. Although my client’s ‘kids’ are in and graduated from college, we decided that it would be most practical to not have a glass shower enclosure. You never know when some grandkids will come along and it’s so much easier to bath kids when you have full access to the tub. So we splurged a bit on this Cowtan & Tout fabric and made a pleated shower curtain with a matching window valence. I wanted the bathroom to be enjoyed by ‘kids of all ages’ which was achieved by using color and pattern.
Although the TV is not yet installed, these pictures provide an opportunity to see the design process inspired by my client’s wishes for their master bedroom. The wish list included, a new fireplace, additional storage, a place for books and collectibles and the design should be unique to the architecture of the room.
We chose to make the built-ins in Walnut to coordinate with the wood tones of a beautiful Japanese cupboard (that I insisted they keep). For the fireplace feature wall, they wanted it covered in one solid piece of stone because they did not want seams (grout joints) to show, which proved to be infeasible. I introduced them to my husband, who is highly skilled in the decorative arts and he developed an amazingly realistic painted finish tha resembles real stone. My clients were so pleased with the results that they had create a Venetian Plaster Finish for the other 3 walls which we hope to photograph soon.
Husband hobbies. Jade plant mania.
Huge sigh of relief (wiping sweat off forehead). Client presentation this morning for kitchen and two and a half baths. Knocked it out of the ball park! They loved everything! Like cooking a Thanksgiving dinner; you spend days cooking and like that it’s enjoyed and done! Yesterday, I found my last two tile selections, finishing off ‘sourcing’ at six different tile stores till I knew it was the best it could be. We won’t be starting construction till late summer and there’s still the family room and center hall to do. I’m also upping my skills in the design and presentation process with mood boards which I love to make. Will share my creations soon!
Dusk is my favorite time of day to relax and enjoy my garden. I started planning and planting about a month ago and things are just starting to get lush, especially after all the rain. It’s so nice to finally relax and enjoy the results of digging in the dirt. I also love my rabbit 🐇 sculpture from .artful.gardener. It’s been a wonderful companion for my Japanese Maple tree. 🌳
Doesn’t get any better than this! So I’m at my desk, which is by my back door, and out of the corner of my eye I see this large flower arrangement literally covering the window and I get up, thinking it’s some delivery person that thinks my door is the entrance to the apartment building above my studio (this is a common occurrence). But instead I find my client struggle to open the door while holding onto this flower arrangement. She is personally delivering it to me as a thank you gift for “making her house beautiful”. Wow! This made my day!
I’ve been working with this client on and off for 5 years. We started with her son’s bedroom. Then the following year I designed and furnished the living-family room, then another year it was the dining room, hall and powder room, then the formal sitting room with a custom designed sideboard-bar cabinet.
This most recent project, I was hired to do 3 bathrooms, one of them being a huge en-suite master bath. My clients patiently waited for a year before the construction began because our schedule continued to fill up while we were ironing out the design details, product selections, labor and budget. Once the contracts were signed then I had to figure out the timing for ordering products that were on back-order with ones that were in-stock. During this time, products were also being discontinued and/or prices were escalating. But, we did it and I’m so pleased with the project and having a client who is so incredibly grateful for what we created for her, makes all the hard work worth it!
Vibrant hues and Buffalo blues. Family room, Williamsville, NY. My personal fav furniture are the pair of
Bassam Fellows chairs with navy leather seat cushions. Leather if from Garrett leather factory in Cheektowaga, NY. I designed the walnut and maple credenza as a media cabinet and home office. Behind those doors are a printer, landline, file cabinet and power station. This was fabricated in Rochester by Barth Cabinetry
Pairing juicy cherry red lacquer with neutral stone mosaic. Under-cabinet lighting adds at touch of magic. Cabinet and tile .
Textiles are my favorite component of a design project and I especially love adding fabrics to dining rooms because they soften all the hard surfaces and add visual interest. These custom upholstery chairs are from with the seating portion of the chair in a fabric and the outside of the chair in a . for the draperies. And that killer chandelier by Restoration Hardware. .
When I’m hired to design a kitchen, I always take my cues from the architecture of the entire house and interiors of adjacent rooms. This informs my design and the result is a reflection of my client. As an independent designer, I choose the cabinetmaker that is the best fit for each client. My favorite features in this kitchen are the substantial crown- dentil molding and the antique mirror glass upper cabinet doors. Interested in what you see? My new website will provide you with more. .

Blue hues featuring custom dining chairs paired with an RH dining table. The starting point for creating this room was the Ralph Lauren large scale floral fabric which I chose for the Host and Hostess Chairs. The supporting fabric in this cast of characters is the delicate floral Jane Churchill drapery fabric. The antique crystal chandelier was the only thing existing in this room when I began designing the project. Visit my website to see more of this project .
I am so happy with my new website. Every picture tells a story, literally! My updated portfolio contains a personal story about each project. Grateful for my clients who let me share this journey with them.
I love my job because I’m always learning something new. My clients wanted me to accessorize a built in shelving unit and I wanted the objects to be meaningful for them. They are very into gemstones, for their beauty and vibrational energy. During my hunt I came upon this Ammonite that was perfectly cut in half to expose the inside. These beauty’s are 12” x 12”. I learned that Ammonites were creatures that lived in the seas between 240 - 65 million years ago, when they became extinct along with the dinosaurs. I’ve got 8 more shelves to go!
