We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again, we have the best team, and in turn get the best patients!

Many times a parent walks into the room with their kiddo for their cleaning and you can instantly see uncertain looks on both their faces.
The parent has worries that their child won’t sit still, or that they won’t open, or that they’ll be loud or cry.
The child has concerns because they don’t know what to expect.
The first few visits for your child, it’s all about building a foundation of trust and understanding that this is a fun place to come to every 6 months.
We brush Mr. Ralphie‘s teeth, we educate about dental health, we brush and count teeth, and at the end we paint on fluoride. Sometimes the child is fearful of sitting or laying back in the dental chair. No problem, we’ll work with what we can get, we’ll brush teeth with them standing up, or sitting in mom/dad’s lap. Eventually, like little Lucca here, they start to get more comfortable. The first time he sat in Dad’s lap, there were some tears, but he did great. This time around he hopped in the chair but wasn’t quite ready to sit back in the chair, no problem, and guess what, no tears and all smiles. I can guarantee next time he’ll hop right in the chair and lay back. It’s all a process and we understand it takes time for them to trust us, and when that trust is found, it sure makes us feel good!
The American Dental Association recommends making your child’s first dental appointment 6 months after their first tooth appears! Make an appointment today with Mr. Ralphie and Dr. Jess so we can start gaining your little one’s trust.

February is children’s dental health month 👶🏽🦷👶🏻 Here’s some tips for your little one’s teeth:
🌟Start brushing the gums even before the first tooth appears, this gets him/her used to the sensation.
🌟Once the first tooth appears (usually around 6 months), start the routine of brushing morning and night with a grain size amount of fluoride toothpaste. They will swallow it, that’s ok!
🌟 Dr. Jess actually recommends brushing their teeth while they are laying down, it’s easier to see and easier to get in there when they start really wiggling around.
🌟See a dentist for their first check up at age 1 - the sooner they start the process, the more desensitized they will become to having a dentist check their teeth. At Lang Dental Group we make it a fun experience so kiddos look forward to coming to see Dr. Jess and Ralphie the alligator.
🌟Kids can start using fluoride mouth rinse when they can spit successfully - usually around age 4.
🌟Thumb sucking or pacifiers should be stopped around age 3 to prevent issues with permanent adult teeth!
🌟Tooth brushing can feel like a chore, but make it fun, and remember persistence with these little ones is key! Try fun smart phone apps that can be downloaded that may spark some interest or new tooth brushes and tooth paste can also help.
