Gates Town Supervisor-Cosmo A. Giunta
Town happenings about Gates, a municipality within Monroe County.
Gates Residents: We have received many calls and inquiries about a camera looking device/objects that are being seen around town and installed on Stop signs and Street sign poles. These are being installed by NYS DOT. I'm being told they are doing traffic studies on these roads/neighborhoods. I'm not quite sure how long they will be there.
Reminder: Today 8/15 Town of Gates is hosting Free Rabies clinic from 5-7pm
Exciting News for Gates. After working with WestMar Plaza owners, we are happy to announce the Town of Gates Farmers Market starting Sun Aug.25th. Special thank you to Teresa Marko, Charles Johnson and our Gates Conservation Advisory Board for running with idea and making this possible. Over 15 Vendors lined up to participate. They are excited and so are we! Come out and show your support as it will assist us to determine its expansion and frequency within the upcoming months. Spread the word.
It's so awesome to see our Gates businesses making a difference in our community. MC's Dugout owners Mike and Cyndi Rosso presented a check for $10, 472 to the Wilmont Cancer Center they raised at the Brain Reed Memorial Golf tournament. Thank you for hosting this tournament every year and giving back to such a great cause.
GATES RESIDENTS:
I want to clarify some misinformation circulating on social media. Firstly, there are no plans to create a town dump. What we are considering is the construction of a new highway garage for the town. Our current facility, built in 1960, has served us well but is now facing issues that will require replacement. We initially thought about rehabilitating it, but it’s too small to meet our current and future needs, so building a larger facility seems more practical.
We are exploring options for a parcel of 15-20 acres, based on comparisons with other towns in Monroe County and preliminary concept planning. The claim that we plan to deforest 110 acres is entirely false and absurd. We are committed to environmental preservation, and any potential site will undergo a thorough environmental review to minimize impact.
We are still in the conceptual stages, and no decisions have been made about a site or cost—particularly the $60 million figure circulating - totally incorrect. We are dedicated to involving the public in this process to ensure we address the town’s needs while respecting environmental and community values. Please be aware that if this project were to proceed, it would require a public referendum that must be voted on and approved by our town residents. If you have any questions, please reach out to us directly rather than relying on the misinformation being spread online. Please consider the source of this misinformation and any potential hidden agendas behind it.

Thank you all for your comments and sharing of this post. Pepper was fostered over the weekend and will most likely remain with them and be adopted. It was determined that this little guy was abandoned and dumped at one of our parks. If you ever witness something like this, please try to capture license plate or any information that would be able to assist us.
This little guy was captured last night around Dunn Towers. Looking for his owner. Very sweet boy and likes to cuddle. Please contact Town of Gates Dog Warden 247-6100 if you're missing him or know who may be searching for him.

Starting Mon. Oct 31st, the Town of Gates will be suspending its brush pickup and shifting our resources to FULL leaf pickup. With this wonderful weather we’ve been having, many residents have already started compiling large leaf piles, and we need to focus on collecting them. That is why we will be suspending brush pickup and sending 4 to 6 trucks out collecting leaves. To help us collect your leaves faster, here’s a few reminders:
1. Rake and create large loose-leaf piles near the end of your lawn by the street (not in gutter).
2. We WILL NOT take bagged leaves. If you choose to bag them, please dispose in your garbage bins as the garbage companies WILL take them.
3. We follow our brush pickup schedule, but if we do not get through that day’s route, we will continue with it until its complete. Because of this, it may take us 5-10 days just to get through the entire Town.
We ask you to PLEASE be patient as we work our way through the neighborhoods. As long as the weather holds, we will continue this process until all the raked leaves are picked up. If you are late at raking and we miss you, we ask that you bag the remaining piles and put them in your garbage. When the snow flies, we have to convert our leaf trucks to plow trucks and replace the leaf boxes with snow salters.
If you still have a LARGE brush pile. please call the town 429-8240 and we will make arrangement for a pickup. If it is small enough to fit in your garbage bin, please dispose of it in there.
Thank you in advance.
