Join Rev. Verdis as we acknowledge the 60th anniversary of the 1964 Rochester race uprising. The 1964 Rochester race uprisings (aka riots) occurred in the context of a rapidly-growing African American population in Rochester which had experienced discrimination in employment, housing, and policing in the preceding years. The uprising lasted for three days and resulted in five deaths, over 300 injuries, and 900 arrests. "Where do we come from? Where do we go?" Please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/97TkxijpLKxXb33Y8 to receive more information and updates or contact Rev. Verdis at [email protected].

At this year's UUA General Assembly, delegates overwhelmingly voted to adopt the proposed revision of Article 2 of the UUA Bylaws that articulate the shared values of our faith movement. This new Article 2 identifies Interdependence, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, Generosity, and Justice as core UU values and places love at the center of our faith. We are excited to embrace this brave move forward in our living tradition! Inspired by the legacy of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, the JUUbilee Singers is the newest offering of the music ministry at First Unitarian Church of Rochester. The JUUbilee Singers choir is devoted to sharing the hope, joy, and inspiration of African American gospel music within and beyond our UU congregation. Songs will be taught in the African American tradition, by rote, and engaging listeners in shared reverence and worship. Rehearsals will be 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 7-8:30pm beginning today, Tuesday, July 2 in the Chapel. No preparation necessary, come as you are.
