⭐About me & JLB⭐
For those that do not know, I've had a small business, Janet Louise Boutique, for 3 years now. It started unofficially as a crafting hobby, but escalated into an opportunity to advocate for mental health and self care. As I've navigated my own mental health journey, I've started curating a collection of "tools" to share with others that...

*Don't have affordable coverage for therapy and psychiatry services if needed (real numbers... I am fortunate to pay a $30 per session. Another person going to the same practice pays over $150 per session WITH insurance)

*Haven't been raised that mental health care isn't necessary, it's all made up.

*Know they could use help in various ways, but don't know where to start

*have tried traditional practices, but they just aren't working (I like to help people get creative in approaching tools in different ways!)

I share tools that support Journaling, practicing mindfulness and gratitude, incorporating affirmations into your day, staying hydrated, getting moveent, etc. I make efforts to close the gap between accessible mental health services and the community around me. If I impact even one person with the work I do, I feel more than successful.

It took the influence of ONE person to show me it was okay to seek help for mental health, and that any challenges I had been facing were more common than I knew... but we were taught not to talk about it.

So, about 4 years later, I talk about it. I talk about it loudly and often. I talk about it in ways that make sense to my audience and me. I "overshare" in an effort to show others that it's okay to feel discomfort/ awkward/ uneasy/ etc. and STILL talk about their mental health (or whatever challenges, really).

I'm truly so grateful to work in a community that supports me for who I am, and sees me as more than "just a teacher." While not directly related to school, I do genuinely believe this endeavor has allowed me to become my best self for my students, families, and coworkers. Finding balance between my career, personal life, other hobbies and passions, and everything in between has helped me discover who I am, and build a life that epitomizes a culmination of those pieces.

Just poured epoxy for the first time since I moved into my house 🥺

I don't know why, but part of me has been nervous to work with resin again...

Where do I want to set up?

How will I keep the cats away?

What if it takes up too much of my time?

What if I don't like it anymore, after investing so much into this craft?

What if my customers don't like my epoxy items anymore?

Etc. Etc. Etc.

However, it felt so good to get back to it. To mix glitter and pick the perfect shine. To know it'll be OKAY if this round doesn't turn out like it should.

The epoxy I used has been open for a while... so it could absolutely not cure correctly 😅 but it might! The surface I used seems level enough... but it might not be... I didn't bring my level upstairs with me 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤣 If it turns out to be unlevel, I'll find a new spot.

I often struggle with a sense of finality, and perfection. If you know me on a personal level, you know I have a weird combination of ADHD doom piles and contradicting particularities in the way routines are run, environments are set, etc. My brain is a weird place sometimes, but every day I learn more about myself and how to function in ways thay make sense to me.

So, with that being said... what do we want to see next?! Pen holders? Trays? Tumblers? Phone grips? Anything, really, this is a pretty short list ;)

The long requested PENS are coming soon, as well ;) I've been resisting and pushing it off, because honestly... I don't want to fail 🤷🏼‍♀️ It could turn out to be one of the easiest things, though! So hang in there - you'll see pretties so soon!

I hope you find the courage to try something new or retry something old. I hope you take the fear, anxiety, and doubts to fuel the drive inside so you are presented with am opportunity to find joy.

I spent a SOLID 8+ hours in the green room yesterday, and am back today... Still going strong!

One thing I'm learning about myself if that it's hard to do anything that doesn't "make sense" to me. Some people can look at a mess and clean it. I truly cannot just "clean" the mess. I have to create a system. I have to figure out how to store everything in a way that makes sense to me. I have to put everything in its place, or leave it as-is. Sometimes I wish I could just tidy the mess so it's out of sight, but that turns into a bigger issue down the line. I think my brain has learned that it alleviates stress in the future if I do it "Right" the first time. Sometimes, the "system" looks like chaos, and that's okay. It can be a work in progress and still make sense.

It's been really overwhelming over the course of my life having this feeling, but not being able to articulate it in a way that "makes sense" to others. However, I think I'm getting to a place where I better understand it, so it isn't as hard when other's "don't get it "

Moral of the story -
Find what works for you, and try to approach situations you don't understand with empathy and curiosity instead of judgment and frustration. It can absolutely be easier said than done, but simply trying to have an open and understanding mind means everything.

-Turnaround time is listed as 13-15 BUSINESS days after the close of a preorder. I will be ordering ALL shirts and prints within 24 hours of the preorder closing. I will press the shirts as soon as I have all supplies. I hope to be shipping closer to 7-10 business days past closing, but need to be mindful that my suppliers have a TAT of their own as well ❤

-Blank t-shirt prices are astronomical right now. IF AND WHEN prices go down, I will 100% be adjusting my prices to reflect that. Please know, I still strive to offer affordable options. ❤

-I ask that you pick your #1 color choice, and then list 2-3 alternative colors in the event that your first choice is sold out. IF YOU DO NOT CHOOSE BACKUP COLORS, A MYSTERY COLOR WILL BE CHOSEN FOR YOU. Please please please be respectful of this policy, and understand that refunds will not be issued due to not listing backup colors. In the event that all 3 colors are out of stock in your size, I will 100% reach out to problem solve together.

-I will offer a monthly color palette in a drop-down menu, but will happily accept other colors (*color charts available in each listing). You'll just need to make sure you add a comment with the color(s) you'd like!

-At this time, I will be listing ~7 designs per week (maybe biweekly as we get going). If there are previous designs you would like to order in the future, PLEASE reach out, and I will check on availability! If they are available with my supplier, I will absolutely grab you one! 😃 It's just easier for me to focus on our weekly designs and not have a million option on the website 😉

-If you happen to make multiple orders before your shirt ships, I will refund shipping overages paid as appropriate. Ex: if you place 3 orders (~$24 in shipping), but it only cost $10 to ship your order, I will refund $14.

-Code LOCALPICKUP can be added to remove shipping from LOCAL orders. If you are not local, but add the code, your order will be refunded *less a $3 inconvenience fee*

My heart is so incredibly full. Love Your Mental Event was everything I'd hoped it would be, and more. I met some wonderful small business owners, fellow teachers, community resource leaders, and other wonderful humans.

I was honestly so anxious going into today...imposter syndrome had me totally convinced I wasn't supposed to be a part of this event, and that I didnt truly belong there. However. I felt nothing but welcome and included as soon as I started unpacking 🥺 Isn't it "funny" how we are so good at speaking poorly to ourselves sometimes?

Anyway, it was an amazing day filled with amazing people. The AM/PM brain dump journal I designed was almost sold out within two hours of the event starting 🥺 I can't describe the pride I felt sharing this tool with others, and them absolutely falling in love with it!

Towards the end of the event, one customer came and checked everything out. She told me I "look like" my business... As in, when she looks at me and looks at my products, they just fit and resemble together. This was honestly such huge compliment! I strive to offer accessible self care and mental health tools, make people feel seen and valued, and create a safe space for all. It's easy to get lost in the "what ifs" of life, but I'm going to bed tonight with a wave of calm and contentment because a wonderful soul helped me see a bigger picture.

As I start to transition back into teacher life, I hope to hold onto the kind words and positive vibes that surrounded me today. 🥺
