True story and it happens ALLLL the time!

Why do prescriptions cost so much? Here is a great example of a very common practice.

Victoza is a very expensive brand name diabetes medication ($1000+ monthly). A much lower cost generic is now available. Logic would say the generic would be covered instead of the brand, right? WRONG! The PBMs (Pharmacy Benefit Managers) FORCE the use of the brand name product because THEY get rebates from the manufacturer. The rebates go directly to the PBM and are NOT shared with the pharmacy or plan sponsor (insurance company).

All the while, the pharmacy’s reimbursement on the brand name drug (which is determined by the PBM) is not enough to even cover the cost of the drug, let alone the staff to fill, our professional services, the light bill, etc.

And the plan sponsors, like employers and state Medicaid programs, are all overpaying for your benefits.

If something is not done about the PBM industry very soon, you will continue to see pharmacies closing at an alarming rate.

Starting in September, we will be closed on Saturdays. Our regular weekly hours will remain Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm. This reduction in hours is due in great part to the terrible state of reimbursements from pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). However, we will continue to provide EXCEPTIONAL care to our customers just like we've always done. If you have any questions or concerns about this change or what that will mean for filling your prescriptions please speak to us so we can ease your mind. We have BIG THINGS coming up in the very near future to make being our customers even better.

Our Pharmacy Technician Training certification course is just $305 this fall semester! This hybrid class will run Sept. 9 through Dec. 11 and meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Robinette Building in downtown Rockingham.
