Art is my expressive vision of lived experience and symbolic interpretation from an array of subjects including spiritual philosophy, literary interpretation, modern feminism, and sheer beauty. It is my coping mechanism, gift and legacy.”

We are excited to highlight Mark who will be participating in our Open Studio event!
“Mark is a photographer and poet, combining both mediums for the first time, this month, at Open Studios. His photographic process sometimes includes adding elements not in the original shot, resulting in one-of-a-kind photos. Mark uses his talents to advocate against the stigmas associated with dementia, mental health, and homelessness.”

We are excited to highlight Quest Jewelry who will be part of our Open Studios event!
“Beautiful beads, exquisite jewelry. Childhood memories of family rockhounding trips nurtured my passion to make jewelry with gemstones. Which is Quest Jewelry. My goal is to make jewelry with high quality gemstones that is easy-to-wear, comes in complementary colors, and offers a meaningful way to stay connected.
My garden photos highlight how colors complement each other in nature. A botanical theme underscores Joyce’s Garden a coloring book for the elderly and dementia patients based on the sketches and drawings of the late Joyce McConnell. In addition to bracelets, earrings, and anklets, I’ve added Perspectives - 3D mosaics created with a painterly approach with hand-collected sea glass.”

We are excited to highlight who will be a part of our Open Studios event!
“Cartoons have always had a major influence on me. I really enjoy the way that you can use cartoons as a format to distill an image or idea into a simple combination of lines and colors. Rather than focusing on details, I like to see what can be conveyed with the least amount of marks necessary. Also, I just like drawing animals and making funny pictures.”

We are excited to highlight Elena Murphy who will be a part of our Open Studios!
“My name is Elena Murphy, I am an art teacher at Weymouth High School, a working artist and mother of two little boys. Clay is an addiction due to the stress relief that comes with working with it. I find passion in creating functional pottery and teaching others both hand-building and wheel throwing skills. Seeing the challenge, resilience and joy that others have when learning fuels my teaching. Selling custom functional artwork to people who appreciate artist’s inspiration and craftsmanship is very gratifying.“

We are excited to highlight the work of who will be at our Open Studio event!
“My ceramic work is about playing with color and texture, weaving vibrant hues and tactile elements into each piece. I experiment with different speckled clays and balancing the natural clay with color and pattern. I love to create functional pieces that one can live with and use everyday.”

Our Story
The 4th floor artists is a vital and growing artists community on the South Shore.
📷
In the early 90s, several artists found a home on the fourth floor of the FL and JC Codman Factory in Rockland, Massachusetts. As time progressed, more and more artists were drawn to the building. The Fourth Floor Artists became a loosely knit association of many and diverse artists. In the mid-90s the group became incorporated as 4th Floor Artists, Inc.
In the fall of 2006 the Codman building was sold and the artists needed to relocate. Many found spaces in the ET Wright building in Rockland, Massachusetts and others found space at the Sandpaper Factory building also in Rockland, Massachusetts. Both buildings were previously factories which were then converted into artist studios and commercial spaces.
The new locations have enabled the artists to stay together as a non- profit, to work independently and to interact within a creative community. The non profit status allows the group to apply for grants to sustain several of their activities. The group is governed by a board of directors.
