this man is an angel.
children with autism are 160x more likely to drown. set up barriers of protection. use them like this family did. and always check the water first.
It’s time to ask ourselves some important questions.
The most commonly used (and generally flawed) water safety strategies include:
-Being confident in your ability to watch your kid “like a hawk” during swim time
-Telling your child to never go near water without you
-Making sure they are always wearing their floatie or life vest in the pool
-Delaying swim lessons until kids are “ready” or accepting swim lessons that do not deliver tangible results in a reasonable period of time
-Assuming drowning would not happen to you
If any of these are your strategies, you are missing the bigger picture and your child is at risk.
Most drownings happen at non-swim time. Toddlers break rules. Floaties cause your child to think they can swim when they actually can’t. If your child gets in the water alone, unskilled and over confident, they will only have seconds before it is too late.
Supervising kids at swim time IS very important. While you do this you also need to think critically about what you are seeing your kid do while they “swim”.
-Is your kid getting real info about water?
-Are they using skills with increasing amounts of independence?
-Are they relying on a flotation device that would not be there in an emergency situation?
-Are they under the impression that they can be safe in water while you watch from the sidelines? Can they?
-Are they jumping into the water and being caught by an adult or a flotation device, leading them to believe that jumping in always results in re-surfacing and being able to breathe?
Flotation devices ARE effective at saving lives in natural water or in the event of an accidental fall-in at the pool. They become problematic when they are misused to make swim-time at the pool easier or more enjoyable. Avoid the misuse of these devices.
There are many small and simple fixes that can keep your little one safer in and around the water. Many of them are free and can be implemented immediately.
Thank you for following along with us at CAST. Drowning does not need to be the leading cause of death for kids 1-4.

Let me just turn everything we're used to about swim lessons on its head 😵💫 and let you know that your child won't learn to blow bubbles in lessons, and here's why...👇
Professional swimmers, lap swimmers, and even kids on swim team (or pre-swim team) learn to exhale as they swim. For them, this helps them maintain their endurance and prepares them for a quick and efficient next breath.
But they're swimming to move forward—not swimming to survive.
Your infant, toddler, or young child is learning self-rescue skills, and in a moment when seconds matter most, they need every bit of air they can get.
⭐️ That's why the first thing your child needs to learn is to hold their breath.
🔸 With their lungs full of air, your child will have time to respond (rather than panic) if they were to ever fall in the water on their own.
🔸 They will also be able to stay closer to the surface—making it easier for them to get to the top of the water for their next breath.
🔸 If they're in clothes or shoes, like so many kids who fall in the water accidentally, swimming to the surface is hard enough—that bit of air gives them a priceless boost!
Will your child always hold their breath in the water? Of course not! As they grow and progress to strokes later, they can learn to exhale as they swim!
🛟 As an Infant Aquatics® instructor, my job is to get them to later.
⭐️ Breath control is one of the many things your child will learn in these lessons that they won't learn in any other type of program.
⭐️ Your child's safety (in lessons and beyond) is at the core of everything we do at Infant Aquatics With Julie.
👉 Head over to infantaquaticswithjulie.com today to see how these lessons can change the way you think about water safety!
We appreciate each and every one of you so much! You & your precious little ones are more like extended family than clients! We would love to hear your feedback & be sure to include pics/video of your adorable little swimmer! 🐬💙

Florida summers in a nutshell. 🌧️☀️🌧️
Taken today in Fort Myers between storms.
🌞 Good Morning 🌞
We have some great news for y’all! (At least we think it’s great! 😉)
Becca’s Cheesecakes are now available by the slice at Mr. Submarine & Salads in Titusville!
Right now we have the Classic Cheesecake available. But, if ya want a little more pizzazz, try it with strawberry, cherry or blueberry sauces.
A sugar free cheesecake will be available starting tomorrow.
Need a whole cheesecake? Just let me know! (Minimum 48hr notice required)
(More flavors coming soon with our cheesecake of the week…stay tuned for more details!)
Because this day could have been dramatic, never underestimate children's resourcefulness when they want to see something. As the summer season begins and we open our pools, be more than VIGILANT, an accident can happen in the blink of an eye!
The only things your child can learn while wearing a floatie in the pool is that breathing while “swimming” takes no work or skill and that they’re safe in the water without you. Neither of these things are true and the related risks can be deadly.
Learning to swim and find air independently should take weeks, not years. If someone you love is not getting the results they need, send me a note.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for kids 1-4. It’s number two for kids 5+.
What do most parents wish they knew? You just read it!
(Always use life jackets on boats and natural water. Life jackets are also important poolside for a non-swimmer that could climb or fall back in. When swim time starts, remove the device and get in the water with them.)
