Pregnancy is a time of tremendous transition. Standing between the worlds of who you were and who you becoming is so big. From maiden to mother, from self-caring to caring for another, from one to two...
Late pregnancy really starts to bring this home as things start to get even more ''real." You may be excited to hold your baby in your arms but also feel anxiety at the thought of the coming birth. If this is your first birth, you may wonder whether you can really do it or if you're truly ready.
There's a lot of pressure in the wellness mama world to be all kumbaya about birth and motherhood- but I can tell you from 40 years of birth work as a midwife and MD that its super common and normal to have a lot of thoughts and feelings surge during this time - and anxiety may be a big one as you reckon with the forces of birth that you are about to face and the awareness of the responsibility of parenting.
The best way to move through these feelings is to speak about them openly, journal them out, draw them - but don't stuff them down. Acknowledging your worries - and asking for help - creates a path of least resistance emotionally and cognitively which can help facilitate your birth. Unaddressed, fears and anxieties may hold you back. And there's help out there for you!
Having a community of midwives and other mamas ready to listen to your concerns and help you face and work through your feelings is essential and powerful. By acknowledging and addressing your doubts, you can actually be in a stronger state of mind and confidence for birth and motherhood.
If you're in search of such a community I've already built it for you! Inside The Mama Pathway pre-launch version of the program, you'll find weekly support and community to ease you through the transition of pregnancy to motherhood.
Want to join me? Head to the link- https://www.facebook.com/groups/ideservebirthsupport. We meet every Thursday at 1 pm ET on Zoom (link provided in stories weekly) I'll be there facilitating group this week. And it's totally FREE. So bring yourself, some tea, your questions, and let's connect ❤️.

👏🏽 We forget that the way babies are born nowadays is new. While I acknowledge a lot of the benefits from this accelerated technology for birth, it’s automatic usage can impede our biological wisdom that has existed for a long (long) time.
We’re starting to see a shift in the birth realm regarding homebirth and birth support, but we need to remember that these are not TRENDS. This is what was here before technological and medical birth existed. Lest you be concerned that I’m downplaying the massive lifesaving gains we’ve gotten from medical technology, let me be clear: I’m always thankful for that, however, we need to remember that just because it’s there doesn’t mean it *has* to be used. There’s wisdom in birthing the way our DNA knows to birth.
Thank you .negra for this powerful set of words.
Almost there. Let’s make this happen.
**Bring back home VBACs in Maine!**
As many of you know, when CPMs became licensed in Maine home VBACs were taken out of our scope of practice.
We know that for many folks having a VBAC is safer than a repeat Caesarean and that giving birth at home with trained providers is a safe and viable option.
Thanks to the hard work of a few folks, there is a proposal on the table for this rule to change. If you are interested in being part of the public hearing, it is taking place on July 26 at 9 am on Zoom (https://www.maine.gov/pfr/professionallicensing/professions/board-of-complementary-health-care-providers/home/board-meeting-information)
You can also submit written comments to [email protected] until 5 p.m. EST on August 5, 2021.
Thank you for your effort as a community in bringing home VBAC births back into our scope as Certified Professional Midwives.
Brilliant beauty. ✨
Thanks for the mention MACPM.
Very thankful for the work you do to support Midwifery in Maine.
