A legendary meeting for a legend!

On July 15th, Emoni Wise, of Freeport gave birth to healthy baby boy, Legend Warren, weighing in at 6lbs 12 oz. Legend was delivered by Dr. Jay Seraji, who also coincidentally delivered Emoni 22 years ago in the same exact OR at Catholic Health Mercy Hospital.

Yesterday, before Legend and mom were discharged, the whole crew was reunited: Grandma; Carmella Warren-Wise, Dr. Seraji, Emoni and baby Legend, of course!

Let’s celebrate life! Today is National Cancer Survivors Day and at Mercy Hospital our survivors, and their friends and families, joined thousands of people in hundreds of communities around the world are celebrating life! Today, we celebrated life with our first cancer survivors event since COVID!

We came together – as cancer survivors, caregivers, health care professionals, family members, and friends – to lift up all people who are living with a history of cancer. Special thanks to Mercy’s Chief of Breast Surgery Dr. Lynette Mendoza and Dr. Hanaa Ibrahim, ovarian cancer survivor, who also joined us as guest speakers and shared their expertise and personal journey, respectively.

It’s a wrap for Patient Experice week! Last week was chock-full of activities that focused on promoting our I-CARE values. At the center of the celebrations was the reveal of our first ever Px Storybook which featured over 100 pages of patient-centered stories from various departments. Special shoutout out to Inpatient Rehab Unit for being named the People’s Choice (yes we voted — over 500 votes to be exact!). Also special shout out to our ED team for receiving a special PX award.

If you, or someone you know, suffers from asthma then this one is for you!

Mercy Hospital is happy to share its launched an asthma self-management training program. The pilot program offers education to teach children and adults how to manage their asthma and prevent asthma attacks. Each session is 30 minutes and is offered in English or Spanish. Insurance is not required.

You didn’t have to have a green thumb to enjoy our community event earlier this week. On Monday, Mercy’s Food and Nutrition Manager Diane Boiko, together with Dee's Nursery Oceanside’s Denise DiDominica hosted a fun and educational event focusing on herbs. Diane discussed healthy eating and how herb flavoring in foods can help boost your immune system. Denise demonstrated best practices for herb planting and harvesting!

Last night we hosted an unBEARably cute event for the Daisy’s and Brownies of Nassau County. While the students learned about basic first aid during the teddy bear clinic, parents sat in on a presentation about mental health hosted by our care management team.

Happy Occupational Therapy month!

OT practitioners help patients to participate in every day occupations! Activities can include riding a bike, walking, getting dressed, writing their name, brushing their hair, and much more!

Today, together with Smile Farms Inc., our team gathered at Mercy’s Behavioral Health Center to prepare the beds for spring planting.

Last spring, Catholic Health, Smile Farms, and Harris Beach came together to unveil a new cooperative garden that was created and designed to support the mental health community, while combating food insecurity on Long Island. The garden has also provided Catholic Health behavioral health patients with employment opportunities and a way to give back to their community.

Many blessings this Easter Sunday! Today we commemorate the Resurrection of Christ.

Today, various departments came together as we hosted a MTA Police PEER outreach day at the hospital. Law enforcement and first responders from our community spent the day being trained, educated and/or updated on programs such as “Stop the Bleed”, stress management and healthy meal prep planning! Additionally, we offered blood pressure screenings and our president, Joseph Manopella, gave a high level overview of programs and services Mercy has to offer.
