Exciting announcement! 📢 Social Solutions is proud to announce that we are recipients of the USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance-funded Climate Smart and Disaster Ready award! This innovative four-year award will establish a Melanesian Youth Climate Corps (MYCC). Together with local actors, we will empower young leaders to be advocates for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction efforts within their communities. Social Solutions co-created MYCC with local actors and we will pilot it in Fiji with plans to scale to Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands.

We are proud to announce our partnership with the Prime Contractor, USmax Corporation, on a $78 million contract supporting the USAID Science for Development Fellowship (SDF). The USAID SDF contract is an exciting fellowship program that is designed to provide access to continuously advancing diverse scientific and technical expertise through high-quality staffing support. These full-time staff will serve as SDF Fellows at USAID and provide direct links to the US higher education community while leveraging their expertise to effectively promote science and technology in international development and US government foreign affairs activities.

The Social Solutions Business Development team wrapped up an exciting end-of-year, in-person retreat last week! Sessions included reflection on past business development activities, brainstorming for future bids, and mapping out effective knowledge management processes.

Centering our retreat around the theme of giving back, our team also made sure to carve out time to volunteer for our community by putting together go bags and notes of encouragement for the Montgomery County Family Justice Center Foundation to support victims of domestic violence. From our team to yours, we hope you have a wonderful holiday season and encourage everyone to support a community-focused organization during this season of giving!

Today we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day through a celebration of Indigenous cultures, contributions, and histories, while also acknowledging the devastating effects of colonialism and oppression that have continued to fuel prejudice and discrimination against Indigenous communities.

As we post this message from the territories of the Piscataway, Pamunkey, Nentego, Mattaponi, Chickahominy, Monacan, and Powhatan people in the Washington, D.C. region, Social Solutions wholeheartedly pledges support to the continued prioritization of Indigenous perspectives in our advocacy for the rights, equity, and inclusion of Indigenous populations at national and international levels. Honoring the Pacific tradition of storytelling, Social Solutions International, together with the Women in Fisheries Network, had the privilege of hosting a seaside talanoa with USAID Administrator Samantha Power. The women fishers shared how they are adapting to climate change challenges and improving livelihoods with support from the USAID Pacific American Fund, implemented by Social Solutions.
