I’m truly grateful and overwhelmed by the beautiful reviews I’ve received this week.

These words affirm that I’m doing exactly what God created me to do- to touch the body and reach the soul of each client that comes into my space.

There’s a reason I schedule 45 minutes between sessions, there’s a reason there’s two chairs next to each other in the waiting room and in the massage room and there’s a reason the windows are open to let light in and then closed during sessions.

The reason is that I read lips because I have a profound hearing loss. I lean forward with my right side to catch what I can but lip reading is so essential. I do know ASL but I rarely ever have anyone else that knows it come into Rockwall Body and Soul Massage.

I believe in listening and taking time so each person can feel safe and understood before I even begin the massage.

I’m not a “Wham, bam, thank you, ma’am” type of person…I’m a sweet talker, slow down, kick off your boots and stay awhile type of woman and therapist.

What you see IS really what you get and I’ll love to get a chance to meet you.

I have time for you to find out for yourself- book your session today at www.texasbestmassage.com

This is about massage, too.

Never force a friendship.

Never force someone to see you or to want you. Never force someone to like you. Never force someone to prioritize you or to invite you.

Never force something that isn’t there.

Never force yourself to be someone you’re not. Never force your integrity to be put on the line. Never tolerate lies, disrespect or rude behavior so you can force a relationship with someone who doesn’t value you.

Sometimes it hurts.

Sometimes you really care about them and it’s just not there on their end. Sometimes you want it so bad. Sometimes it’s easy to believe that if they just knew you, they’d love you back.

But you can’t force belonging.

It’s either there or it’s not.

And as sad as it is, not everyone who comes into our life was meant to stay in our life. Not everything is a lesson learned. Some things just are. And some things just aren’t.

And part of maturity is accepting that with open arms and an open mind.

Love them.

Be good to them.

But do it without expectations and without manipulations.

Don’t break your own heart hoping for more than they’re willing to give. Don’t be a doormat and don’t go around begging for scraps.

Hold your head high.

Know what you bring to the table.

Release your fist.

Let things flow naturally.

Let other things fade naturally.

And let what happens, happen.

Good things will come to you. If you keep a pure heart, the good ones will find their way to you.

So please never force a friendship.

Things that are forced tend to crumble at some point and life is far too short and your soul is far too precious to be left with shattered pieces.

You will find what’s made for you, but not if you’re holding onto what’s wrong.

Love,
Amy

It’s Thursday.
Simple, right?

Today’s I will write stories and poetry.

I will work out and maybe I’ll bake. Maybe I won’t.

I do know that I need to create new things for my website and order some products and finish a blog post that’s been on my heart.

But there’s something else on my heart today… it comes from yesterday’s sessions- my first was a guy I see often that I love our conversations and his taste in music.

Right before I was to step out of the room so he could get ready to get on the table, he asked me- “ Can you hear the music,Jeanna'?”

I told him that only when I’m standing next to speaker… He reached for the phone, adjusted the volume and made it loud enough that he saw the smile in my eyes and my body start moving to the rhythm and then he said, “ I want you to hear all the good things, too!”

I had tears in my eyes as I walked out and often during the session, as I moved to the music, tears would fill my eyes again.

This guy cares. Many times during my battle with CNS, he’s came in for massages and pressed money into my pocket to “cover your training session.”

Every single session I do at Rockwall Body and Soul Massage, makes it possible for me to get the training i need to heal, to get the treatments from Anthony Fortier D.C. that stimulate my nerves that were injured and places my knee and hips back in alignment.

The optic nerve is the one that’s most frustrating since it means I have to Uber everywhere… which means all the little things I would like to do are placed on the back burner.

I wanted to the grocery store yesterday for water bottles, fruit, bars and fresh colorful daisies but I couldn’t.

I want so much to go get more house plants and some lemon balm but I couldn’t so instead I pulled everything down from my closet and rearranged the shelves.

I am learning to live in the moment with what I have - which is great music and great people.

That brings me to my last client of the day who walked over and grabbed me into a tight, long hug. It had been 5 years since he had a massage- with three kids in out of state college, he just couldn’t find the time between running to their games, working and his military commitments.
It was so good to catch up and share photographs and memories.

He,too, has great taste in music and wants me to be able to hear it.

We stood there talking after his session- the last ones standing at 925 N Goliad and it was absolutely wonderful …. Wonderful because being able to touch the body and reach the soul is what I love to do, it’s one of the things I know I was created for.

Every encounter and every obstacle is an opportunity to become what I want to become….and while I want to become more confident in my walking and stronger in my balance- I realized yesterday that because I couldn’t go get food or flowers, I was able to climb my ladder and balance on the top step and move things from the shelves.

I couldn’t trust my knee to go down the uneven steps in front but I no longer hesitated to ask for help.

I have learned that people might not know and I can’t assume they do… and it’s okay to let them know.

I have also learned that it’s important to trust the process and the timing.. and sometimes it takes a little longer than I would like but it will come…I believe!

It’s been a really good day.
One client wanted the Blues and my last was a guy that I’ve missed- with three kids in college- it’s hard to get a massage.

I’m heading home and I’ll be back Friday!

Do y’all get ‘em,too?
Political texts, marketing texts, posts from politicians and spamming ads…, all kinds of things you don’t wanna see?

I get it and I slide right past most of them but once in a blue moon, I get a text or ad that makes me think twice- and act fast!

So this is what I hope this one does for you- think twice and act fast because I have a handful of openings for the last week of June. I wanna fill these openings with 90 or 120 minute sessions.
Act fast - www.texasbestmassage.com - book your session and receive upgrades because I’m in a celebratory frame of mind!

After all I’ve taken it one day at a time and I’m finally back to Thai, back to herbal compressions, and almost back to Ashiatsu!

The next time
you refuse to sing
because you’ll never
fill a stadium
or decline the joy of dance
for fear of looking
ridiculous
or you resist risking
the new adventure
because you’re
not entirely ready or
you dim your shine
because you’re not
completely healed and whole

the next time
you hold yourself suspect
because you’re not
entirely qualified

just remember

a bird doesn’t sing
because it’s talented
a bird sings because
it has a song

the moon doesn’t only shine
when it’s whole
it can show up with
a single sliver of itself
and still light an entire
night sky

show up. sing. shine.
the world needs you
as you are

🩷 I have to share this with y’all.

You see, because of my hearing lose, I’ve never been able to carry a tune .. and was told to just lip sync the songs and never let a sound out.
It took a long time for me to realize that when I hold back, I’m holding back more than a sound-i am holding back who I am and what I was created for.
“Take joy, my King, in what You hear…May it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear”

I have a star projector in my massage room and I look up and even when the moon only shows a sliver, it still shines enough and I think about this- that even when I don’t show all of me, I’m still whole- I’m still Jeanna’ and God still sees all of me even when I step out of the light.

I love knowing that even when I’m only showing bits and pieces, I’m still fully known and loved.

I lift up my hands and I lift out my hands because every single person that comes into my space, is created in Your image and known and loved.

“If the stars were made to worship
Then so will I
If the mountains
Bow down in reverence
Then so will I
If the ocean roars
Your greatness
Then so will I”

06/19/2024

Added something special today- a place to write and create in my space.
It’s been too long since I’ve really sat down to write- intentionally- because I’ve been waiting and waiting for different reasons.

Now it’s set up for me to begin again.

06/18/2024

I have to share this.
As an empathic bodyworker, I’ve had some people try to make me into someone I’m not.
My response is to simply let them go on- I will not be mistreated or will in tolerate anyone mistreating my staff or anyone at 925 but I also will not waste energy or time with those that try.

I keep my place safe…emotionally and physically safe.

I will treat people with compassion and understanding but let’s be perfectly clear- my kindness is not available weakness, my silence is not agreement, my strength is not always visible.

I give and I receive many blessings.

I know what matters to me and what God has laid upon my heart.

There’s a reason why I require clients to book online and prepay for their sessions.

Simply put it shows respect for both of us- our time, our health, our plans.

I arrive a hour or more before my first session of the day to prep and get everything ready- there’s towels and stones to warm, a table to heat, and oils to prepare.
I make every face serum in very small batches- just for that person.
I set up the music, the aromatherapy diffusers, and the gift bags… no one ever leaves empty handed.

I stock the fridge with sparkling lemonade and waters.

I make sure there is toilet paper and paper towels in a clean bathroom.

I empty trash cans and fill candy dishes.

I polish mirrors and sweep floors.

I water plants and adjust lights.

Then I sit down and go over intake forms and center myself to be present with each client.

I treat people right,
and I’m treated right.

Another therapist,Katie Jolie Gautreaux left this comment on a thread I had written about doing Thai for the first time after an injury.

Her words have stayed on my heart and I want to share them here.

“The deepest
Most authentic blessing being a licensed therapist is healing ourselves through extreme trauma by refining our trade like this and being of service to others❤️🦋❤️ blessings to you my friend!”

She gets it. She so beautifully gets it.

Massage heals my soul and my body just as it heals my clients. Every time I give, I also receive.

I am blessed.

I’m sharing this because it’s the truth- the whole truth.

Conclusions I’ve come to. . .

• Everybody will never like you, or get you, or want you. That’s okay. We really do have to make our peace with it.

• Keeping a pure heart is hard, but necessary. Staying soft is a gift, and choosing to love when it would be easier to hate is always the way to go.

• Some people suck, but you can’t let them suck the life out of you.

• There’s more to life than being pretty and having a bunch of stuff. Like, a lot more.

• There’s a price to speaking your truth, but you still have to speak it. Do it with kindness. That usually helps.

• We all need an incredible amount of grace to get through.

• Laughing is good for the soul. We should all do it more.

• I can’t believe God gave us the gift of dogs. How great is his mighty love for us that he gave us these furry creatures?

• Life is more fun if you’re a little weird. Sing in public. Dance whenever you get the urge. Talk to strangers. Have your own style. You don’t have to do it like everyone else. In fact, you shouldn’t do it like everyone else.

• It’s okay to ask questions.

• It’s better to give compassion than judgement.

• We all have a purpose, and that’s a beautiful thing.

• There are a million reasons every day to be grateful. We don’t always see them, but they’re there.

• Connection is powerful.

• Sweatpants are amazing. Somebody give a Nobel Peace Prize to invented them, please.

• It’s okay to have a hobby, and it’s okay to do something just for fun. Everything doesn’t have to be turned into a job, or a side hustle. It’s cool to get paid and all, but doing something just because you enjoy it is a lost art, and it’s time to bring it back.

• We need more time to rest, pause, read books take walks, and watch sunsets.

• Our words are mighty, and we are all entirely too comfortable using them as weapons to tear each other down.

• We’re all messy. We’re all struggling. We are all flying high in some ways and falling flat on our faces in others. Nobody has it all figured out. It’s our job to cheer each other on, lift each other up, and push each other to keep giving it our best.

• It matters who we surround ourselves with.

• We don’t need to be so hard on ourselves. We are the best work God’s ever done. He was careful in forming each line on our hand and placing each hair on our head. He was creative. He was magnificent and masterful with every single part of who we are.

• We need to be better to each other. We’re all we have. ❤️

Love,
Amy

I wear this shirt often because it’s one of my trademark expressions and because people that don’t know me will start talking to me because of it.

There’s something else- on my website I have a little section that tells about me- that I have profound hearing loss but most people just click to book and have no idea until they meet me.

So I want to share a little insight about being HOH ( hard of hearing) cause i reckon some of y’all might just think I’m ignoring y’all when i actually didn’t hear you!

I saw the puzzled look in the eyes of the guy that grabbed the door for me and I’m pretty sure he had asked me a question, but i didn’t hear him.

At Downtown Rockwall Texas I’m pretty sure some people thought it was strange that i kept rhythm to the music, but couldn’t understand them talking to me.

So let me tell you this much-

I can hear the music, but i can’t make out the lyrics although i can catch the chorus if i concentrate real hard.

I damn straight can hear kindness and patience in a voice just as well as i can detect sarcasm and anger.

I read lips- so holding your hand over your mouth leaves me staring at you like you’ve lost your mind when it’s actually me that’s losing my mind!

Those mirrored sunglasses- look really cute on you-and drive me crazy because i need to see your eyes so i can read your facial expressions along with your lips.

That’s right- i read the entire face and the body language in order to understand what’s being said.

It’s not easy, but it’s something I’m used to so if i ask you to take off your sunglasses, it’s because i want to be able to really understand you.

Oh, yea, if you see me trying to walk around you, stop and think about where you’re at.

For hearing people, it doesn’t matter that much but, for me and other deaf people, it makes all the difference in the world.

If the sun or light is behind you, it creates “black face “ making it nearly impossible to read your lips and understand you.
That’s why i go around shutting the blinds and moving the chairs.

You see, I’m not being rude, just don’t always hear you so please reach out touch me- because touch is a language i can always understand.

There’s another thing, if i can’t reach out and touch you, i can’t understand you so when you’re raising your voice across the room, you’re wasting your time because becoming louder isn’t becoming CLEARER.

Step in a little closer and include me in the conversational circle- when hearing people all stand 6-7 feet apart, my head spins in circles trying to catch bits and pieces and i wind up laughing on cue, and bobbing my head when i really want to ask them to come closer and repeat.

Here’s another thing, talk TO me- not to whoever I’m with.. because when you overlook me, for whatever reason- you miss out, too.

See, being HOH is a blessing- i don’t hear what anyone says behind my back so i don’t pay attention to gossip and because i have to be intentional in conversations, when you’re engaging with me- you’re the only person in the world- i give my full attention to you. I focus, i listen, i lean in, I’m present and in awe,

When was the last time somebody held on to your words as if they were precious stones?

That’s the way it feels when you take the time to sit close with someone that’s HOH-you are the center of attention.

Damn straight, it’s that simple.

You can always ask me anything and I’ll do my best to answer- because once you know more, you’ll understand more! Let’s sit a little closer, talk a little slower!

Friday afternoon I did a traditional Thai massage session.

I can barely express how that felt without tears running down my face.

It’s the first Thai on the mat I’ve done since my central nervous system injury two and half years ago.

I was able to stay on my knees for long periods and to lift my client into position with ease and without losing my balance.

I was so overwhelmed with gratitude that I was easily able to pull him into Cobra, Plow, and Turtle without struggling to hold myself steady.

I also used Thai herbal balls for some parts of the session and realized I needed to rearrange my space a little better for Thai sessions like this.

I will be sweet talking a few people into letting me practice before I place this back on my service menu.

I want to refresh my body and soul and hone my touch first.

I read this and I cried.
Let me be that person.
“"forever in awe of people who pay attention. people who wait for you while you tie your shoes while the others have walked away. when they continue listening intently while the rest of the group stopped listening. noticing your moments of silence when everyone else hasn’t. “this made me think of you” noticing things you never even noticed about yourself. people who say “text me when you get home safe.” people who make you laugh until you cry. childhood friends who keep in touch. people with genuine intentions. people who are soft when the world has given them every opportunity to turn hard. the “let’s get ice cream” at 3am friend. the turn up the music in the car and sing friend. people whose actions match their words. people who make the world feel less chaotic. kindred spirits. the trustworthy and honest. hard workers. good listeners. clear communicators. people who love you for who you are. people who don’t ask you to be anything other than yourself. people who choose you. people who stay."

from Putting The Soul Back in the Body, 1985

Resting Stroke: What is meant here is just placing your hand on the person, making contact. It may be said to be the basic stroke of some disciplines such as polarity, Jin Shin Do, Reiki, etc.

But it needn't be considered esoteric. We all know how helpful a simple hand on the shoulder may feel when things get a little rough. That hand says, “I care about you, I'm here, it's going to be OK.”

At the beginning of each massage I use this stroke, not with the pretense of “Here's Mr. Healer,” but simply as a way to introduce myself to the person's body, often while we're lightly conversing.

It is Yin in the sense of receptive. When I want to know how a client is feeling, I may pause in the treatment and, letting the hands rest, try to sense with them, or simply ask, “How ya doing?”

The resting stroke allows, both literally and figuratively, for breathing space in the massage. Sometimes the constant motion of the hands becomes an actual distraction. Take a rest, re-establish contact.

The interweaving of stillness and movement, many different rhythms, are as necessary in a massage as they are in the interwoven sound and silence of music.

The focus of the resting stroke is contact
***
Hi all, Kristen here. David's letting me post his stuff while he's gone. To say this is an honor for me is like saying that, when the sun sets? It gets a teensy bit dark outside.

The first time I read about Resting Stroke was years, years, years ago, and he had me in the 3rd paragraph: "not with the pretense, 'Here's Mr. Healer.' " I still laugh at this, not only because I've received sessions from individuals who oozed this kind of ego from every pore, but also because I know I have the same tendency: to believe my own hype, to think *I'm* doing this amazing thing. Egads.

When we practice Deep Massage we relax: we step out of the way and let the client experience themselves fully, which includes moments of stillness. This is where true healing can happen.
