It is with great sadness we have to announce the passing of Karen Savich, owner of the Rolling Hills General Store.
Karen died peacefully in her sleep yesterday March 1st in her home in Rancho Palos Verdes. She is survived by her son, Jeff, and daughter, Tracey.
In the 1980’s, Karen and her husband Stan purchased a horse for their daughter Tracey. It became a passion of theirs. Later in 1986, Karen quit her nursing job and took over the Rolling Hills General Store located at 26947 Rolling Hills Road, just across the street from the Rolling Hills Main Gate.
Over the years the General Store has been a staple with the horse community here in Palos Verdes and our entire community as a whole. Anyone who has frequented the RHGS over the years knows that it’s not just a tack shop. It’s a rescue center for horses who limp in off the trails, a place to grab a sandwich, and a place that feels like home.
Karen and later her daughter Tracey, now the General Manager of the store, served as a rock for our community. Karen’s intense drive, passion, laughter, and love for animals was contagious and inspiring.
She will forever be ingrained into the very DNA that makes Palos Verdes such a wonderful place to live.
I’ve set up a GoFundMe on behalf of the Savich family to cover some costs related to Karen’s death. Any amount donated is appreciated but not expected.
There will be a memorial celebration at the Rolling Hills General Store on Sunday March 13th from 11am to 1pm. The address is 26947 Rolling Hills Rd., Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274. The public is welcome to attend. More details to follow in the coming days that will be posted on the Savich Family’s GoFundMe page.
Please direct any questions related to the memorial event and otherwise to my email, [email protected]
