Today students from the day and night EMST 105 class participated in an MCI drill at Perry Hall High School. The students were either patients for the event or liaisons for the PHHS Paramedic Biology students.

They assisted the students in triaging over 30 patients and then the treatment and transportation of thees simulated patients to area hospitals.

Students from PHHS were then debriefed by faculty from the Community College of Baltimore County Paramedic Program as well as members of the Baltimore County Fire Department, Baltimore County Police Department, Maryland State Police and the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company.

They were also given a presentation from all services present on their respective career field and the education programs needed to become certified for each career.

Afterwards the students from both programs were able to observe the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company perform a simulated vehicle rescue.

What a great day for all involved. Thank you to PHHS for putting this all together. This is an awesome program!!!

Please be advised that tomorrow the Community College of Baltimore County Paramedic Program along with the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company, Baltimore County Fire Department, and Baltimore County Police Department will be conducting a simulated Mass Cassulty Incident at the Perry Hall High School.

There will be several pieces of Fire,EMS, and Police equipment on site to assist the PHHS Paramedic Biology class and Criminal Justice class with their event.

Please note that this will not hinder any EMS or Fire services to the community.

Paramedic Rodnie Matute is a graduate of our program from 2018.
We would like to congratulate him on his quick response and actions as described below.

If you are interested in becoming a CCBC Paramedic or EMT please reach out.

Our EMT class for the spring still has a few seats left. Class begins 1/29/2024!!!!

Paramedic cohort of 2025 applications are also open until 4/15/2024 and the CRT-I bridge application is open until 2/1/2024.

Email [email protected] or [email protected] for more information.

We would like to recognize our Johns Hopkins Lifeline Transport team members, Paramedic Rodnie Matute and EMT Anatoly Gunning whose quick actions likely saved the life of a young man.

Last week, the Johns Hopkins Bayview Emergency Dept was placed on mini-disaster due to a broken water pipe. EMT Gunning and Paramedic Matute were on standby to transport patients to Johns Hopkins Main Campus.

A private vehicle drove up and approached them to ask for help. Paramedic Rodine was able to communicate with the family who spoke Spanish and believed their 17-year-old son was having an allergic reaction. The crew immediately recognized the patient was critically ill, placed him on their stretcher and rushed him inside the ED. The patient was unconscious with agonal respirations. Based on their report of a suspected allergic reaction, Doctors from the emergency department quickly intubated the patient and discovered substantial upper airway edema. The patient was successfully intubated and was then transported by the Lifeline crew to the JHH Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

The Johns Hopkins Emergency Department staff and physicians commended Anatoly and Rodnie in the highest possible terms for their quick-thinking and rapid action. They believe they probably saved this young man’s life.

“On this day... 22 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.”

At the time of his death, Garrett was in his second semester at Coker University, where he had earned a scholarship to play lacrosse. To honor Garrett, Coker University is building a stadium in remembrance of him, the Garrett Tazwell Bakhsh Stadium. All of the funds raised from the sale of this coin will go to Coker University in support of the new fieldhouse, being built in his honor.
