Wishing you a safe and happy fourth!

We're excited to see you at our Independence Day celebration, starting at 7:00pm at the LPHS West Campus! As a reminder, tonight's professionally-run show is the only permitted fireworks display in Roselle. Please don't risk your safety or your property this Fourth of July weekend by using at-home fireworks, which are illegal in Roselle and in the State of Illinois.

The Roselle Police Department will be responding to fireworks complaints, including issuing citations for possession of illegal fireworks. The public is advised to call 911 to report firework use near your property. Thank you for celebrating Independence Day safely!

Starting your Fourth of July celebrations this weekend? As a reminder, fireworks are illegal in Illinois and in Roselle for good reason: fireworks cause thousands of injuries and fires each year. Even fireworks like bottle rockets and firecrackers pose a risk. Keep yourselves and your loved ones safe during your Fourth of July celebration this year and leave the fireworks to the professionals 🎆

On June 1, the Roselle Fire Department was dispatched by DuPage Public Safety Communications (DU-COMM) to a resident who called 911 and was experiencing chest pains. DU-COMM provided instructions to the patient until the ambulance arrived. Once our crews were on scene, they quickly identified the resident was having a heart attack. Crews immediately began providing advanced life support care, including a 12 lead ECG and administering medications, and notified the Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village that a cardiac patient was on the way. As a result, the resident was brought directly to the cardiac cath lab at the hospital to receive care and was released a few days later with no health deficits.

Responding to cardiac emergencies is often a race against the clock. This call was a shining example of how the partnerships first responders have with agencies like DU-COMM and area hospitals help patients get the life-saving care they need as quickly as possible. DU-COMM even joined us at the firehouse yesterday to celebrate the resident’s recovery! Thank you to all our partners who helped us save the resident’s life, and thank you to our patient for granting us permission to share this story ❤️

Heads up! Sanitary sewer smoke testing is scheduled to begin tomorrow, June 12, in the northeastern region of Roselle.

Heads up! When we start surveying our sanitary sewer system on June 12 (weather permitting), you might see smoke rising from the ground. This non-toxic smoke is used to signal areas where rainwater may be entering our sewer system. Residents and businesses in the testing area will receive a letter with more information.

Check out the testing area map, as well as Frequently Asked Questions about smoke testing, on our website at https://www.roselle.il.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1435.

On Monday, June 3, 2024, members of the Roselle Fire Department participated in the 13th Annual Knicker Open, which was held at the Medinah Country Club. This event is dedicated to raising funds for Folds of Honor, an organization that provides educational support to the spouses and children of fallen soldiers and first responders. Our crews arrived in style driving the department’s 1927 Peter Pirsch, which was showcased during the Color Guard Presentation and National Anthem.

Thank you to the anonymous corporate sponsor who donated the event tickets to our first responders!

Last week, the Roselle Fire Department had training with the Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital Mobile Stroke Unit team. Training included a review of rapid treatment techniques and procedures, as well as a tour of the Mobile Stroke Unit.

The Mobile Stroke Unit is a specialized ambulance equipped with tools and staff normally only found inside the hospital. The unit is the first of its kind in Illinois, and one of the first in the world.

Like the many local agencies that partner with Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, we are so grateful that our residents have access to these services! For more information about the Mobile Stroke Unit, visit: https://westmobilestrokeunit.nm.org

With the possibility of severe weather in tonight's forecast, we're sharing some severe weather safety tips:

🔵 A watch 👁️ means be alert and prepared to take shelter. A warning ⚠️ means severe weather is in the immediate area and residents should take safety precautions right away.

⛈️ Have multiple ways to receive weather notifications. Residents can register for Nixle notifications by texting 60172 to 888777 or visiting www.roselle.il.us/Police.

🔵 Be prepared: gather essentials like battery-operated flashlights, first aid kids and make sure everyone in your home knows where to shelter when needed. Always take shelter away from windows, ideally in a basement, crawl space, or windowless room like a first floor bathroom.

⛈️ Avoid flood waters: flash floods can occur during or after severe weather and are capable of sweeping away people or cars.

At this week’s meeting, members from our Explorer Post 383 had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on flow path and fire behavior demonstration. This training, which occurs at most fire academies, was able to be presented in a safe and controlled environment allowing the Explorers to learn how air, fuel, and heat impact operations at a structure fire.

A special thank you to Deputy Chief Tim Smeltzer and his son, Devin, for building the Palmer’s Dollhouse prop!
