US kidney Research Corporation (Formerly Curion Research Corporation) Artificial Kidney R&D
Hello everyone,
The toughest part of designing a waterless blood purifying device and eventually an implantable artificial kidney is inventing a transport system. Once ions, water, glucose and urea are separated from the blood, which we have already accomplished, these elements need to be transported in the proper amounts, and over a specific time period, either to the blood stream or the urine stream. The transport system is responsible for performing this task. No one in the world has successfully created a working transport system. Compared to other components in the device, this is the elephant in the room. US Kidney Research Corporation has recently made a major breakthrough and is finally at the threshold of solving this problem. Using a new proprietary electrodeionization design, recent experiments have yielded very promising results. We are on the verge of solving the transport for the ions potassium and sodium, potassium being the most difficult ion to solve. Once the transporting of potassium/sodium is solved, the other ions will not be as problematic, as the same new method can be applied and repeated for the remaining ions. Based on the results of recent experiments, we believe we will be able to finish solving potassium/sodium transport within 2 months. This will represent a huge advancement and a medical breakthrough. Urea, glucose and water are not going to be a problem, and we have already solved a large portion of the transport for these elements. Solving the ion transport issue will lead us closer to finishing a waterless blood purifying device that can replace current dialysis machines, and ultimately, lead to the creation of an implantable artificial kidney. We will keep you posted.
We have made a significant amount of progress this last year. Though we don't post everything, be assured we are always working and moving forward. We now have patents on our technology in 26 countries. We have also invented new technology that emerged as we worked on the artificial kidney. Some of these new discoveries will help raise funding through sublicensing agreements. Funding is extremely important to any research company, and having a new way to raise it is a blessing.
I want to wish all of our wonderful supporters here on Facebook a very Happy New Year. Thank you all.
US Kidney Research Corporation (USKRC) is delighted to announce new groundbreaking research as part of a contract with the University of Arkansas (U of A) resulting in the development of an ultrafiltration membrane with diverse filtering applications for medical and non-medical devices. This remarkable membrane represents a significant advancement, particularly in the field of dialyzers, the filtration device used in hemodialysis machines to remove toxins, promising improved dialysis performance and enhanced ultrafiltration flux. Nature is the top scientific journal in the World. Research papers of the highest caliber are the only ones that are published. A published scientific article in their journal gives a researcher tremendous credibility among his peers. To our amazement, Nature published an article written by an independent author, highlighting 3 companies working on artificial kidneys. We were among the 3. It was an honor to see coverage of our research published in this prestigious scientific journal. Click the headline below to read...
Could implantable artificial kidneys end the need for dialysis? Highly engineered mechanical structures could radically improve the quality of life for people with chronic kidney disease.
Update: USKRC has raised an additional 1.5 million dollars. We plan to further expand our research team. Additionally, Yupo Lin has agreed to consult with us on this project. He is the godfather of electrodeionization, which is the heart of our technology. He is a brilliant electrochemist. These additions will begin on November 1st, 2022. It is our goal to reach Proof of Concept and begin human trials of the waterless portable blood purifying device by the end of 2024. This is part of the process leading to a fully developed implantable artificial kidney.

Update: We have hired additional researchers to help accelerate our progress. Much progress has been made, but much more work is yet to be done. Currently, the ion transport system, our primary methodology, is the main focus of our attention. The transport system separates various elements and sends them to either the blood or urine stream in the appropriate amounts and over the appropriate amount of time. The transport system is the heart of the device. Once this is solved the rest is easy in comparison. I know many would like to know a timeline, but it is hard to say, as research can go quickly or slowly, depending on the number of experiments needed to obtain positive results. We are working on patents and have filed in many countries. We have our US patent and recently received a granted patent in China. We are waiting for patent examination in many other countries, including several European countries, as well as Japan, Singapore, India, S. Korea, Canada, Australia, and Mexico.

Update: We have entered the latest KidneyX contest. This one is about new devices. Eight prizes, each 500k, will be awarded. The winners will be announced in July.
During the course of our primary research, we have discovered a new method for preventing blood coagulation in tubing and components like our ultrafilter. This is huge. For instance, tubing used in dialysis machines is prone to clogging. Thus, dialysis patients are given blood thinners such as Heparin prior to a dialysis session to prevent clogging of the tubing. Our discovery, once perfected, would eliminate the need for blood thinners and their side effects which are detrimental to patients.
We have much work to do, and we are looking for additional funding to help accelerate our progress and shorten the time needed to reach clinical trials.
