Boston Pride Parade & Festival 2024 by Boston Pride For The People

The Boston Pride Parade kicks off at 11am in Copley Square. It proceeds through the South End via Clarendon and Tremont Street, returns to Boylston Street via Berkeley Street, and then continues to Boston Common At Charles Street. Staging area: The area for parade marching contingents to gather and organize will be along Boylston Street, between Dartmouth Street and Massachusetts Avenue. Some side streets intersecting with Boylston Street will be utilized as well.

Memorial Day Garden of Flags: 37,000+ flags on Boston Common

Our signature community building event! Since 2010, we and hundreds of volunteers have created a majestic garden of flags on Boston Common for Memorial Day weekend. Each of the 37,000+ flags we plant every year at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument represents every brave Massachusetts service member who gave his or her life defending our country since the Revolutionary War. The completed garden is a breathtaking tribute to the true meaning of Memorial Day and a powerful message of community support to the families of these fallen heroes that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

The Jamaica Plain Farmers Market is a small neighborhood market, featuring only the freshest local foods. The vendors must produce or make their own product and due to the small area for the market, there are no crafts or other non-food items for sale. We have farmers who accept farmer market coupons, WIC, and SNAP.

Please try to walk or bike to the market if possible. You can also park in the lot next to the bank parking lot , but not in the bank parking lot – thanks!

Duckling Day

Mother’s Day is Duckling Day!

Join the Friends of the Public Garden in Boston’s most beautiful parks for Duckling Day! A beloved Mother’s Day tradition for over 30 years, the event celebrates the children’s classic book Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey. Your family can join hundreds of children parading through Boston’s most picturesque parks, dressed like characters from the story. Led by the Harvard University Marching Band, the parade will begin in Boston Common and end in the Public Garden near the famous Make Way for Ducklings sculptures. It’s the most adorable event in all of Boston!

Before the Parade at noon (free to watch), join us for Playtime on the Common, a vibrant array of family entertainment from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All activities are included with event admission:

Spring Bird Walk at the Boston Nature Center

Join us to observe resident birds and spring migrants in a unique urban habitat that is a favorite stomping ground for many bird species. A BNC naturalist will help us find and identify birds through field marks, sounds, and behaviors. Birders of all levels will enjoy these guided walks; beginning birders are encouraged to come! The trails are flat and easy to walk.

We have a Nature Center with bathrooms and a water bottle filling station, as well as a large parking lot.

World Tai Chi Day with Bow Sim Mark Tai Chi

Once again, the students and teachers of Bow Sim Mark Tai Chi celebrate the biggest Tai Chi event of the year. Join us at Boston's Chinatown gate for demonstrations of Tai Chi, Pakua, and the many fist and weapon forms of internal Kung Fu.

2024 Boston Marathon

Monday, April 15 -start times range from 9:22 to 10:30 a.m. 26 mile, 385 yard course between Hopkinton and Boston. The 122nd Boston Marathon - one of the city's biggest events of the year, and also known as the "Patriots Day Race" - features more than 25,000 elite runners from around the world competing in a route made difficult by rolling terrain and features such as "Heartbreak Hill." Although the winners complete the course in just over 2 hours, many participants are still running hours later. Registration to run in each year's race takes place in September, but you can watch from anywhere along the Boston Marathon route - or check out qualifying times.

Taiko Drumming in the Cherry Blossoms

Come celebrate Japanese culture amongst the Arboretum’s beautiful cherry blossoms, with Taiko drumming by local band KM2 + KASA Taiko, and calligraphy and Japanese games by the Showa Boston Institute. The Taiko drumming will be taking place from 6:00-6:30, with Showa activities before and after. Seating for the performance will be on the ground, but you are welcome to bring a blanket to sit on.

Accessibility: This program will take place on mowed grass in the Bradley Rosaceous Collection.

Audience: This event is appropriate for all ages.

Inclement weather policy: Participants will be notified via email at least 24 hours in advance if a program needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather, and will be notified by phone if a program must be cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice. The 28th Annual Greek Independence Day Parade of Boston

The 28th Annual Greek Independence Day Parade of Boston will return on Sunday, April 7th at 1:00pm starting at Boylston & Exeter Streets and concluding at Boylston & Charles Streets. Immediately following the parade, the Boston Common will transform into “Plaka,” Athens’ central square, with a Greek cultural celebration packed with Hellenic heritage. The New England Evzones and local Greek dance troupes will perform dances from all over Greece, as attendees are encouraged to try their hand at Greek dancing and indulge in authentic Greek food which will be provided by Greek street trucks and vendors. In commemoration of Greece’s independence from Ottoman Rule, which began on March 25, 1821, this year’s parade is presented by the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of New England (FHASNE), supported by the Mayor's Office of Special Events and Tourism, and in cooperation with The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston (MBC) and The Consulate General of Greece in Boston.

Womanimation! MassArt Encore Edition

A special edition comes to Massachusetts College of Art and Design on Saturday March 30th at 3:00 pm in the Design and Media Center (DMC) Lecture Hall, on 621 Huntington Avenue in Boston. The event is free and open to the MassArt community and the general public.

In the length of a typical 90-minute feature film, this special edition of twelve films from ten countries will entertain and challenge, with visual styles from stop motion to computer animation to 2D, often blending styles and materials to achieve distinctive looks.

A slideshow introducing the filmmakers will precede the program, and audience members will be given ballots to select their favorite films of the program. DJ Madame B will weave soundscapes created by women across the globe before and after the screening.

Festival organizers from MergingArts Productions, which produces the festival, will be in attendance to introduce the program.

The event is a SWAN Day event. SWAN Day is an international holiday held in March designed to showcase the power and diversity of women’s creativity.

South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade 2024

The South Boston St. Patrick’s Day/Evacuation Day Parade returns to take place on Sunday March 17th 2024.

In Boston, St. Patrick’s Day is observed annually with a parade that takes place in South Boston, the city's predominant Irish-American neighborhood. The parade has been a tradition in South Boston for more than 110 years, with the first procession taking place in 1902. It includes various marching bands, police and army contingents, costume spectacles, novelty vehicles, and a general "green" atmosphere due to participants and onlookers wearing green hats and accessories to reflect the association of the color with Irish culture.
