🍂wishing you all a day filled with your people, may you eat, sip and enjoy these special moments.
🍂we will be doing the same, so we will not be open for service tonight. Looking forward to hearing the Thanksgiving rehash tomorrow. Doors will open at 4:30.
🍂love you all. Much thanks for making us your grotto.

📸side note: we are also grateful for the amazing staff not pictured here, and realize we need a new group photo. Stay tuned!

🍷 : it’s when Joey puts on his teaching robe and floats from table to table waxing poetic about the nuances of wine.
🍷 It’s when we open up bottles, typically not sold by the glass and pour them into three half glasses.
🍷 It’s when we create groupings: tasting wines by a common grape varietal or common region.
🍷 It’s every Wednesday, starting at 4:30 and is back from its summer hiatus tonight. See you then!

✨May your year be filled with passport stamps, earthy reds, black diamonds AND SO MUCH LOVE. 💕

🌈These two! Seventeen years ago they moved their life to Roslindale and decided to celebrate by walking down to the new local restaurant. There were threats of storms that night, but they walked down, saw a rainbow & sat outside on the Grotto courtyard.

🌈They have continued this tradition every year on August 5th: they walk down and sit outside on the patio to reminisce about how it started. Last night they even caught another rainbow on their walk down.

🌈Bob & Sue are part of our Grotto family. They have supported us through hard times and celebrated us in the good ones. When it’s not August 5th, you will find them sitting at the bar catching up with the grotto crew on life’s adventures.

🌈These two are who make the Grotto special, and we are so lucky to have so many Grotto “regulars” just like them who have become our family. Hearing stories of celebrations (& anniversaries) of milestones are what makes this place a true gem.

🌈Thank you to all of our Grotto Fam for supporting, celebrating & making us part of YOUR family through the years. & congrats to Bob & Sue on 17 years in Rozzie with us (& 50 married!). We love you!

07/04/2022

🎇We are closed to today to be like Sophia and enjoy the fireworks!
🎇Enjoy your day and spend it with the people in your circle.
🎇We will see you tomorrow for cocktails and snacks at 4:30 on the patio. It’s looking to be a great week, so reserve your spot at Sophiasgrotto.com

These two! Fixtures at our bar for more years then we can remember. Jimmy is a bartenders secret on a busy night, as he would wax poetic with bar patrons about the old Rozzie, golf lessons & local politics. People didn’t even know they were waiting for a drink when Jimmy got on his soap box. Cathy would discuss wine nuances and tomato plant insight with staff all while rolling her eyes at Jimmy’s long winded side.
These two became our family supporting us always, both in our individual goals and collective ones.
Last night Jimmy & Cathy celebrated their last “grotto night” (& Jimmy his last night in Rozzie after a lifetime!). They are headed south to live the retired life: sipping wine, playing golf and cuddling their grandson.
We will miss you guys! You will always have a seat at the bar when you come back to the big city! Thanks for the love and friendship! (& additional thanks to Jimmy for being the elementary school carpool driver for one young grotto girl in the ‘80s!)

See you soon. Enjoy this next chapter. ❤️

Happy Father’s Day to all the Grotto dads out there, & especially to these two amazing men!

Joey & Johnny, thank you for sharing your love, your wisdom and most importantly, your home at 22R Birch Street with us.

We raise a glass to you today.

Happy Birthday to this guy! Happy Birthday Johnny. Thank you for being such a wonderful boss, leader, and friend. Enjoy!

Seventeen years ago brothers Joey & Johnny built a bar. What it has become is beyond their wildest dreams. Thank you, Grotto family. We would not be here without your love, support and appetites.

It’s been 722 days since we have had our bar open. But yesterday we shifted back to the days before March 15, 2020. We pulled the bar seats out of the basement, gave them a nice cleaning and set them back in their rightful home. It felt like a good old fashioned Sunday, having a bar filled with laughter and joy.

Ciao tutti

We will be closed tonight, Friday February 25 due to the weather. We apologize for any inconvenience but we want to ensure the safety of our staff and community.
Don’t worry, we will be back at it tomorrow and Sunday opening at 12:00 pm.

On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, take a moment in silence to reflect on his words, to become inspired by his actions, and to set an intention for yourself.

We are grateful for this incredible man.

💫 Starting this Saturday, 1/15/22 the Grotto will require proof of vaccination for all diners ages 12 and up per the city of Boston vaccine mandate. Please have your card or a photo of your card ready when you come to the door.
💫 If any members of your party do not have vaccination status or proof of it, we will gladly host you outside in our heated patio.
💫 Reminder that all guests must wear masks while walking through the restaurant and anytime that they are not seated.
💫 If you disagree with this mandate, please do not take it out on the person asking for the vaccination card. They are simply following the rules. Life is challenging enough for everyone right now and we ask that you continue to respect our team and treat them with kindness as they do to you.
💫 This photo is from early on in this pandemic, close to two years ago. However the sentiment still holds true to us today. WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER.
Much love and thanks for all of your continued support.

12/25/2021

💫We are closed today so that we can play with our new train sets, hug our loved ones & dance around the Christmas tree.
💫 We wish you all a day of joy, merriment and love. Looking forward to seeing you at Sunday when doors open at noon.
💫 The photo above is of two brothers who 43 years ago enjoyed their first train set. Today, they welcome people off the train every day with delicious food and drink at Sophia’s Grotto.
💫 Merry Christmas from Johnny, Joey & all of our Grotto family.

🍂We have always been grateful for our extended Grotto family. However these past 20 months have really given us pause to reflect on how incredibly special you all are to us. We have survived because of you all. We are thriving because of you all. As you celebrate with the people you love today, please take a moment to have some love on yourself. And know that all of us at Sophia’s Grotto are thankful for each one of you. 🍂

😷Masks are back!

😷Acting Mayor Janey has announced an indoor mask mandate beginning this Friday, August 27th.

😷What does that mean for us? Anytime you enter our restaurant for takeout, for seating, while ordering, or for using the bathroom, you must have your mask on.

😷We appreciate you & thank you for your understanding as these restrictions return.
