We lost a giant of a man on June 26 of this year.

Dale Smith passed that day. It is safe to say A5 would never have come into existence without his work and commitment to our common vision. Dale was a co-founder of A5 along with Bayne Tippins, Phil Bush, Anna Bush, Jeff Choe, and Bob Westbrook. At that point in time in the Atlanta volleyball landscape it was a radical leap of faith to leave the established clubs for what Dale believed was a better vision and path for what club volleyball could become.

Dale was an accountant and savvy business person. His counsel and leadership during this time was pivotal in our ability to create a sustainable platform that has changed the lives for the better for thousands of athletes and families. Part of Dale’s motivation on the volleyball side of things was that both of his daughters played and both were very good at the game. Betsy, his oldest, went on to have an outstanding career at the University of Florida and currently is the Head Volleyball Coach at UAB. Maggie, his youngest, also a very good player, currently teaches and coaches the game at Wesleyan School here in Atlanta.

Thanks, Dale. We love you and acknowledge all you have done for so many in your life. A5 is honored and blessed to call you one of our own.
