We are celebrating Thanksgiving today. The most important part of the meal was prepared first...the PIES! We only made two pies this year, apple and pecan. My niece is making another apple pie and also a pumpkin pie. I'll make a big bowl of homemade whipped cream to top them all off. Can't wait!
I made some pretty awesome buttermilk biscuits last weekend. Brenda Gantt has an old fashioned method that doesn't use conventional measurements. I was skeptical, but they turned out so light and fluffy! I'm a believer! See comments for the how-to video.
Now, at DCB, we're all about traditional crust. But we know that not everyone is comfortable with rolling out pie dough. This is a great alternative that will produce a yummy pie crust and you can still brag that it's homemade! Watch until the end and you'll get a great recipe for a blackberry lemonade pie, too!
And if you don't follow Cooking with Brenda Gantt , you need to hurry up and do that. She's so wonderful and you will get some great tips and make some great food. We are in love with her buttermilk biscuits!

Our sourdough starter is bubbly and ready to go! This one took a while to mature, but it looks like a winner. I'm going to feed it and put it to bed.
Sourdough takes all day to prepare, which is why ours tastes so good. It's worth the wait. 😉

Rebecca was hard at work on this lattice top when she declared that whoever came up with the phrase "easy as pie" had obviously never made a pie in their life. 😄
The dark chocolate bourbon pecan pie is becoming a favorite with our customers. We use Jack Daniels to flavor the pie and Ghirardelli bittersweet chocolate to take the pie to the next level. Brown butter also adds a wonderful toffee flavor to the filling. All of these elements come together to make a pretty awesome pie.
These are both pecan pies, but the pictures were taken in different lighting. Our pecan pies have a delicious filling that starts with brown butter. We roughly chop our pecans so the pie is easier to cut and eat. If Rebecca's in the right mood, she might make a pecan heart on your pie, too. 😉
Did you know the flavor we associate with cherries comes from almonds? The cherries we use in our pies do have lots of cherry flavor, but we aren't above tossing in a splash of almond extract to give it a little boost. We make our pie fillings from scratch, which we think makes a better tasting pie. Try one and see for yourself.
Our mixed berry pie is a fan favorite. A mixture of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries is encased in a lattice-topped crust. It comes out bubbling, hence the beautiful oozing deliciousness below. Also great with some homemade whipped cream, but if you go with vanilla ice cream instead, I'd totally understand.
What makes our pumpkin pie so special? We use a rich custard base and add a pinch of ground black pepper. It enhances the warm spices found in pumpkin pie and makes the pie extra delicious. Top it off with some good whipped cream (we love to make our own) and you have the perfect ending to your Thanksgiving meal.

Hello, friends! We've been on hiatus while COVID-19 has been wreaking havoc on the world, but now we're ready to put our aprons on again and bake for you. I just uploaded the new menu to our page. Order deadline for Thanksgiving is November 20th. Pickup dates need to be scheduled when you order and the last pickup date is November 24th. If a pickup date is full you will be offered a different date. We try to make your goodies as close to your pickup date as possible so they are as fresh as they can be.

Valentine's Day order deadline is Wednesday 2/10. We have pickup slots available on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. You can always order a pie, or any item off of our menu, anytime. Our special Valentine's menu includes the below items: iced sugar cookies ($14/dz, iced Lofthouse cookies $8/dz, and hot chocolate bombs $3 ea.)
