Super interesting to see how fencing worked in the Olympics 100 years ago. If you're missing watching the Olympics, don't forget Paralympics fencing will be Sept 3-7!

Fencing, a fun sport for just about everyone
The Round Rock Fencing Club (RRFC) was founded July 1, 1986 by Prevot d’Armes Gary L. Murray Sr. The RRFC was born from a high school drama class at Round Rock High School. The drama class was going to perform plays that involved sword fighting scenes. No one knew anything about sword fighting so Gary Murray Jr., asked his dad, who had been fencing for fun, to come to the group and choreograph some of the moves. It was such a success that the plays were very successful and audiences loved the sword fighting scenes. After the season ended some of the students wanted to continue fencing and learn more. Coach Murray accepted the challenge. Coach Murray was in his 19th year with IBM in Austin, Texas and the company allowed him to leave early every Monday to teach the fencing class. Coach Murray found a small warehouse and rented it for the summer. Little did the students know that Coach Murray’s expertise was only a week or two ahead of them as he was still taking his fencing lessons and then would pass them along to his new students while they were still fresh in his mind. Short story; the RRFC, over the years produced two Olympians, one World Champion, 8 National Champions and numerous more Junior Olympic Champions. The club is still going and growing strong as it goes into it’s 33rd year. If you are interested just give Coach Murray a call at 512-819-4097, text or email at [email protected].
