It is that time of year. It is time to rest and take a break. It is important for everyone to take a break and recharge.

I will be out of the office from June 23 through July 2, 2023.

How to take care of yourself and each other as you process this, again?

There is no right way to process the many thoughts and feelings. Do what you need.

Theme was rain/water.

I loved this theme. It spoke directly to my love of the water’s edge. I skipped the rain, leaned directly into the water and played with the waves. I also tried nearly identical paint on three different paper weights. I had been curious how the paper impacted things. It was fun to play and I learned a lot about which paper I prefer.

We are still painting. I find I look forward to it every night. All of us in the house have been battling winter illness these last few weeks. It’s a good reminder to slow down, do what we can and what’s left can wait. Rest and fluids most important.

I am still playing catch up. On work, on painting, on posting. Last week’s theme was night/light. I was pleasantly surprised how both of these turned out.

✨Remember, we can walk away and let things dry.

✨A new perspective is found when we can pause and then reflect.

✨We can offer ourselves and each other modifications - especially when we need them. My updated goal is 100 pieces in 100 days, while painting on the days that i am healthy.

When we are open, we can be surprised by sparks.

I don’t like winter. My body gets uncomfortable in the cold. I want sun and warmth and softness. So I was conflicted about this past week’s theme of fall/winter. I let go and kept painting because watercolors bring me peace. I saw an image from where and did a live tutorial. I didn’t have time to watch but did my own inspired by it and was pleasantly surprised by my trees and my first attempt at people. I also attempted versions of trees that others do well. Many of those I need to work on - I may, I may not. However, I did find some winter trees that my soul said yes too. Inspired by a therapeutic weekend at the water back in early December, I found a way to love winter. From the warmth of the indoors, I sure do love these winter trees.

Let’s talk perfectionism. Many of us struggle with it, including myself. One of the reasons I connected with watercolor was because it can not be controlled and the more I try, the more the piece resists.

I love my concept of the inspiration photo (2) AND I am continuing my search for tape that does not tear my paper/paint. I will not let it lessen my enjoyment of the process. Sitting down to paint every night has been good for me and that is success. Let’s adjust our idea of success to one we each choose, instead of the perfectionism’s need that was handed down to us.

Anyone with some tape suggestions, please send em my way.

I threw in a quick bonus piece that I did to hang in my bathroom (3).

This is a challenge I can get behind. I have been wanting to paint more regularly. It started unexpectedly at on Friday. Then I saw the loose and gentle challenge posted by an artist I follow .

My desire is to paint more, with no need to paint every day of the challenge. There is no pressure to produce, accomplish or achieve. Only permission to paint and play.

✨Ask if there are certain topics off limits around other family or friends

✨Defend them if offensive comments or questions are made/asked

✨Avoid making gendered assumptions around dating & identity

✨Treat them with the same respect you would any other person

Starting off by reminding you it can actually be very simple to support the trans kid in your life, if you just listen and show respect ok.

It's . Today, my trans kid turns 20. They came out at 11. We listened and supported them. These days, they lead a very normal existence. This is what tends to happen when we affirm trans kids: they grow into trans adults and go on about their lives. The end.
