The average couple waits about 6 years to seek counseling and usually at the very last minute when they are in crisis. Often times, it's one partner that is more committed to the idea of seeking therapy than the other.
"Many couples come into therapy thinking they have already done everything they could. There also could be a fear of failing. One or both of the individuals may have a sense of hopelessness already instilled.
As a therapist, you see that this couple may have just fallen short of looking at new possibilities."

In Honor of Haitian Flag Day, Haitian Heritage Month, and National Mental Health Month, cultural pride and celebration allows us to connect with our identities as we continue to assimilate in the American culture. Here are 4 ways that celebrating and honoring cultural heritage positively impacts your mental health!
Have you considered how your past history of childhood trauma can drive your perfectionism or unrealistic high expectations for yourself? Culture tells us to aim high in every area of our life. But what if that’s driven by low self esteem, low self worth, having to constantly defend against what people said negatively about you, growing up in poverty, or not feeling taken care of or looked out for. Let’s chat in the comments!
