LCFF (Local Control Funding Formula) funding allocations are unrestricted & flexible, giving school districts significant discretion on how they use the funds. DO YOU KNOW how your district and school site are using this funding?
Learn more about the LCFF: https://ed100.org/lessons/lcff

Although all students receive free meals regardless of income, the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) application still determines how much funding our District receives, and we need your help supporting our school community! Starting Thursday, August 15, and as soon as you can, please:

Fill out one online application per household, available in multiple languages.
Include all children and adults living in the household.
Please note that all the information submitted remains strictly confidential.

Visit scusd.edu/lcffapp to learn more. The application will be available between August 15 and October 31, 2024.

UPDATE: Sixteen- and 17-year-olds will be able to vote in school board elections in Oakland and Berkeley 08/10/2024

As fast as technology improves so should the conditions of our communities. What took so long? Looking forward to hearing scholar voices.

“Voters approved measures in 2016 and 2020 allowing these teenagers to vote. But it has taken years for the Alameda County Registrar of Voters to approve a system to allow these young people to register and vote only in school board elections and not in other elections. Teenage advocates and the community organization Oakland Kids First have been pushing for the county to implement youth voting ever since the measures were approved.

If a 16- or 17-year-old wants to register to vote in the school board elections, they must use the pre-registration system to register to vote as a “youth voter.”

Five small municipalities in Maryland also permit youth voting for school elections.”

Freedom Summer Traveling Exhibit in Sacramento

Educational materials for K-12 classrooms based on Freedom Summer-California’s Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum

Freedom Summer, held in 1964, was a pivotal moment in the American civil rights movement. Organized by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), this campaign aimed to register African American voters in Mississippi and challenge the systemic racism that had disenfranchised Black Americans for generations.

The Freedom Summer Traveling Exhibit, created by and on loan from University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio, is temporarily on exhibit in the California Secretary of State March Fong Eu Complex from June 18 to August 13, 2024.

Miami University students created a series of educational materials for K-12 classrooms based on Freedom Summer content both covered and not covered in this exhibit and aligned with Ohio state curriculum. The content aligns with Unit 8 (“The Movement”, pp. 580-581) of the UC-Approved African American Studies Course Outlines of the
