Officers Schools of Instruction of the 414th Masonic District are held regularly to increase the knowledge and further the light of all Master Masons.
The Officers School of Instruction, under the direction of Wor. Michael Woo, PM, Inspector of the 414th Masonic District, presents the Three Symbolic Degrees in Freemasonry and respective ritualistic floor work in a concentrated and detailed format, thereby allowing everyone to practice, ask questions, and clarify issues that may arise during each degree.
**New Years Message from Grand Master Arthur H. Weiss**
As we wind down this season of holiday observances, we come to the end of another year. Normally, this is a time for celebrating what has come before and looking forward to what comes next. It is traditional for us to pause and take stock of where we are—to assess the progress we’ve made during the past 12 months and to promise ourselves, by means of New Year’s resolutions, that the next 12 months will be filled with positive actions that will fuel self-improvement as we strive to reach our perfect ashlar.
But, because of COVID-19, this year ends on a much different note. Our world, our country, and our brethren continue to deal with the medical and economic fallout of this pandemic. For many, this has not been the happiest of holiday seasons and the start of the New Year does not seem as bright as we had wished. We pray for the health and safety of our members, our communities, our first responders, and our front-line medical workers as this year comes to a close.
Yet, as we look upwards into the infinite starry night sky and trust in our Great Architect, there is cause for great hope as we enter 2021. Our fraternity continues to support its members through the Distressed Worthy Brother Relief Fund, the most successful call for help in our 170-year history. The staffs of both Masonic Outreach Services and the Masonic Center for Youth and Families continue to provide compassionate service to our members and their families. The staff of the Masonic Homes of California works tirelessly to care for our most vulnerable seniors. And we all have cause for celebration as vaccines for this pandemic have now been approved for use and our residents and staff will soon be inoculated, providing additional protection from the virus and reducing some of the intense fear that we have all felt for their health and safety.
This New Year, I have only one resolution: to remain positive and push this jurisdiction forward into its bright and glorious future. I am committed to re-opening as soon as prudence dictates. I am committed to implementing our 2025 Fraternity Plan. I am committed to increasing Masonic family unity. I hope you will embrace these same resolutions and these same commitments as we move forward together in the next evolution of our beloved craft.
Barbara and I wish you a most happy and joyous New Year.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Arthur H. Weiss
Grand Master
Dear Brethren,
I hope this message finds you safe and healthy. As you know, a number of wildfires are currently threatening communities across the state and have forced evacuations in several counties. At times like these, it’s important for us all to take extra precautions to protect one other, our families, and our communities.
If you or your family are in need of assistance, don’t hesitate to access our statewide relief services by calling Masonic Assistance at (888) 466-3642 or emailing [email protected]. If you know of a fellow member in need of advice or services, please encourage them to call. If you call on behalf of another member or their widow, we recommend they be present in order to expedite relief.
If your lodge hall or property is damaged or threatened, please contact the Grand Lodge Real Estate team to determine the appropriate next steps. They can be reached at [email protected].
For those out of harm’s way, please join me in doing whatever is possible to support those being affected by these fires, including all our firefighters and first responders. Offer help where and when you can, get in touch with vulnerable members and widows, and extend any assistance you are able to.
Thank you and stay safe.
Sincerely and fraternally,
John E. Trauner
Grand Master

This fall, lodge members will have a new space located in the room adjacent to Lodge Room No. 4 on the second floor of the Masonic Temple, dedicated to their unique needs for traditional use of a library space or study room.
The Temple is now in process of identifying, categorizing and transporting books to the new library, which will also have access to current subscriptions for journals and serial Masonic publications.
Currently available are the periodicals Wall Street Journal (subscription donated by Wor. Phil Hardiman, Building Manager) and The Philalethes Journal (donated by Washington Lodge No. 20).
Library hours will be Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, and also on Lodge nights, upon request and on any Saturday or Sunday when the Temple is hosting an event (Weddings, Celebrations, Corporate Events, etc.).
Access to the new library will be controlled by the Building Management and Staff. Authorization will be granted to lodge members who are Masons in good standing and will be available any time the Temple is open.
