Sacramento CERT
Sacramento Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a group of volunteers trained by and affiliated with the Sacramento Fire Department.
Sacramento CERT had a great time providing medical support for the 2024 Farm to Fork Festival in Sacramento.
Sacramento CERT was again honored to help at the 2024 Tower Bridge Dinner. This is a great fundraiser and Sacramento CERT members were happy to help by providing Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) to provide medical coverage for the event (freeing up medics for other calls in the City).
Sacramento CERT is happy to welcome our newest graduates from the 2024-02 CERT Academy. Welcome to Daniel M., Elizabeth L., Jaiden L., LaToya S., Lei Lana J., Louis H., Martha M., Patrick M., Paul R., Sarah B., Sharrie O., Spencer E., Wan Yi W., and Wendy L. On a VERY hot Saturday afternoon, members completed a full scale disaster simulation to bring together all of the skills CERT members would utilize during a major earthquake. Members worked VERY well together and did a great job keeping each other safe, taking care of volunteer victims, and completing the missions they were assigned. On behalf of the instructor cadre and the entire Sacramento CERT team, welcome to CERT!
Academy 25-02 in Session 5 (Fire Supression/Utilities Control and Light Search and Rescue). Looking forward to graduation next Saturday!
Sacramento CERT had a fantastic time supporting the 13th annual Banana Festival in Land Park. Great food, great event, and a great chance to serve the community with medical aid coverage. Thank you to all who stopped by our area and to our members who helped support the event!
Sacramento CERT was honored to assist the Sacramento Regional All Hazards Incident Management Team during the Crozier Fire. Sacramento CERT along with Elk Grove-Galt Cert, Folsom CERT, and Metro Fire CERT provided base camp support at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, issuing lunches to firefighters and contractors, managing parking for apparatus, overhead, and the public seeking fire information, helped with base camp signage and setup, and camp hygiene. By assisting the Type 3 IMT, we helped make the transition to a Type 1 IMT that much smoother.
Sacramento CERT Deployable Members, check your email (re: Extension of deployment to the Crozier Fire).
Deployable Sacramento CERT members, check your email for an availability survey for the Crozier Fire (IMT Support).
Deployable Sacramento CERT Members, check your Everbridge Notice for an Activation Order re: Crozier Fire
Sacramento CERT had a great time at the Natomas National Night Out block party! Thank you to the Hamptons Community Foundation for inviting us and hosting a great event!
Sacramento CERT is assisting with gathering donations for victims of the Park Fire.
A retired Sacramento firefighter is gathering new/used (working) chain saws and generators for those affected by the Park fire. He is seeking new or used generators or chainsaws in good working condition. These items will be taken to Butte County and distributed to those returning to their homes who need to clear debris and to provide power until utilities are restored.
Once donated these items will not be returned.
If you have any of these items or know someone willing to part with them for a great cause, please consider a donation.
Donations can be brought to:
Sacramento CERT Operations
3900 Roseville Road
North Highlands, CA
CERT staff will be on site Tomorrow (7/31/24) and Thursday (8/1/24) from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Donations will be taken to Butte County on Friday 8/2/24.
Deployable Sacramento CERT members, check your email for a message re: Park Fire Deployment.
Sacramento CERT was honored to have a table at Sacramento Fire Station 20 today for their open house. Station 20 serves the Del Paso Heights area and we had a great time educating the public about preparedness in general and the CERT program.
Are you prepared for a disaster?
Why be prepared? In the face of a serious disaster you may not have the utilities you rely on and the police, fire, and emergency medical services will be overloaded. You could find yourself and your family without power, water, food, and medications for days or even weeks.
Aware and Prepare LISTOS was created to give you and your family the training and insight into what you need to be self reliant and prepared, to know how aid the injured, and how to stay safe.
Created by Aware and Prepare in partnership with public agencies and local services, LISTOS classes are free and the whole family is encouraged to attend.
Sacramento CERT will be hosting a LISTOS class on July 13th from 8am to 5pm at our training room at 3900 Roseville Road, North Highlands, CA. You can sign up using this link:

Please consider coming out and learning more about how to keep your family prepared for disasters!
Thank you to everyone who came out this morning to help us clean after Operation River Safe and refit for fire season. We started at 0730 to beat the heat and our gear looks great! Great job team!
SO proud of our Sacramento CERT volunteers who came out in force to Tiscornia Beach Park at the confluence of the American and Sacramento rivers. Members fitted life jackets to anyone who wanted one, advised parents of the City's life jacket ordinance, patrolled the beach for swimmers in distress, and provided first aid services to park visitors. (And of course we had a BBQ). Today's heat (unofficially recorded at 108) was a challenge, but our members adhered to our rehab plan and toughed it out. GREAT JOB CERT!
California is expected to experience extreme heat in the upcoming days. Summer heat waves can be dangerous, especially for people who may be more sensitive to the heat. That includes young children, older adults, people with chronic diseases, outdoor workers, people who are unhoused, and those who are pregnant.
As California undergoes more frequent and severe heat waves, Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced the ready.ca.gov, a new, one-stop shop for Californians to prepare for emergencies and extreme weather. The new website is part of Listos California, which is a state effort that connects communities with resources before, during and after emergencies. In addition, the Department of Public Health has created a Heat & Summer Safety toolkit to provide resources and communication tools that can be shared.
There are four simple ways to help keep your family and community safe this summer:
1. Stay Cool (During the Hottest Times of the Day)
• If you are getting too hot, take a short, cool shower and stay in an air-conditioned area.
• Those without air conditioning should check with their city or county for cooling centers or visit public locations such as a library or shopping mall.
• Avoid physical exertion or exercising outdoors.
• Wear lightweight, light colored, loose clothing, and when outside, wear hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
2. Stay Hydrated
• Don’t wait until you are thirsty. Make water your go-to drink. Drink water early … and often.
• Drink sports drinks (in moderation with water) to help replace electrolytes lost during exercise.
• Avoid sugary, alcoholic, and very cold drinks.
• Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
3. Stay Connected
• Check on each other, especially those at high risk of heat-related illness including infants and young children, people 65 years of age or older, individuals with chronic illness, disabilities or who are pregnant.
• Use a buddy system when working in the heat.
4. Stay Informed
• Check your local news for weather forecasts, extreme heat alerts, and cooling center information.
• Know the warning signs of heat-related illness (Heavy sweating, muscle cramps, weakness, headache, nausea or vomiting, paleness, fatigue, light headedness or dizziness). If you feel any of these symptoms, move to a cooler location immediately. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.

Please help share the word, and stay safe this summer.
Sacramento CERT members were exited to assist the University of California, Davis, Medical Center with their UC Davis Modular Surge Facility Testing exercise. CERT members assisted with setting up what equates to a field hospital wing using Western Shelter Systems tents. Sacramento CERT has a smaller version of these tents that is used for Command, Communications, or Medical staging, and participation in this event allowed CERT members to learn how larger versions of these systems are assembled, and allowed "blue sky day" coordination between UCD and CERT.
HUGE thank you to the Sacramento CERT members who assisted with the FEMA CA-TF 7 Urban Search and Rescue Certification Exercise on Wednesday and Thursday! Sacramento CERT members assist TF-7 with mobilization and demobilization duties, getting TF members through various stations including Parking/Keys, PPE, Field Packs, HAZMAT, Communications, Personal Bags, Flight Weight/Manifest, and others. Members arrive to the Team Assembly Point prior to deployment and set up stations, then process each member through each station. Upon return, members then demobilize the TF by recovering equipment and getting members back home to their families. This crew was OUTSTANDING, and we estimate we had the average TF member through the process in about 16 minutes. GREAT job CERT!!!
Today Sacramento CERT was happy to assist volunteers as they cleaned up parks across the city in advance of Earth Day.
Today, Sacramento CERT welcomes 5 new deployable members to our team.
As FEMA CERT Volunteer Type 1:

Yesterday, new Sacramento CERT members completed fire shelter training to wrap up their Wildland Fire urban Interface training. Next week: HAZMAT First Responder Awareness.
Today, dedicated Sacramento CERT members are taking their Wildland Fire Urban Interface class. This class will teach them the hazards of the Wildland Fire environment, the effects of weather and topography on fire behavior, how to prepare defensible space, preparations before the fire arrives, and how to deploy a fire shelter.
Sacramento CERT is happy to welcome the members of Academy 2024-01 to our team! The class learned about Disaster Preparedness, CERT Organization, Disaster Medical Operations, Search and Rescue, Utilities Control, Disaster Psychology, and CERT Response to Terrorism. The class completed with a full scale exercise to put the hands on skills and theory into practice. This was a great class and we are very proud to welcome them to the team. On behalf of all of the instructor cadre and command staff, thank you and congratulations to Aiden, Aryn, Bruce, David, Diana, Earl, Heather, Jair, Jill, Jonathan, Kelli, Kimberley, Leo, Lilly, Niclle, Santos, Shaina, and Stephanie!
Sacramento CERT Academy Class 2024-01 wrapped up week 1 on Saturday with Disaster Medical 1/2. Week 2 kicks off tonight with CERT Organization and Disaster Psychology. Great job to our attendees, we look forward to a fun Week 2!
Sacramento, it's time to rally behind our heroes in blue and red for an epic showdown with a purpose!
Get ready for the Battle of the Badges, where Sacramento Fire and Sacramento Police will go head-to-head in a monumental challenge: running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours straight! And they're not just doing it for bragging rights - they're doing it to support an incredible cause: Warfighter Overwatch.
Warfighter Overwatch is dedicated to serving our Veteran and First Responder community and their families. They provide vital programs aimed at fostering camaraderie, resilience, and connectedness, all while harnessing the power of the environment to remind our heroes of their strength and ability to overcome any challenge.
So, Sacramento, here's your chance to make a difference! Support the Sacramento Fire Department as they lace up their running shoes and hit the pavement to not only beat the Police team but, more importantly, to raise crucial funds for Warfighter Overwatch.
Every dollar raised will go directly toward supporting our Veterans, First Responders, and their families, ensuring they receive the care and resources they need to thrive.
Let's show our gratitude and support for those who selflessly serve and protect us every day. Donate, cheer them on, and spread the word! Together, we can make a real difference and honor our heroes in the best way possible.
