In-Person/Hybrid: Ringing in the New Year with John Mifsud (Vipassana)
Let’s “ring the bells that still can ring” (Leonard Cohen)
On this day that marks the ending of one year and its myriad experiences, and  embarking on an unknown  new year, we will reflect on what we have learned, what we wish to let go of, and our intentions for the coming seasons. Our teacher, John Mifsud, will include the opportunity for bell-ringing as part of our morning, a time to listen to our hearts’ truths.  We might also gather around a firepit.
Please stay for a potluck at 12 p.m. and sangha social time.
John will also be offering private interviews after lunch
Hi all,
Mary Mocine is teaching tomorrow morning, including Beginning Meditation Instruction at 9 a.m. She wanted to remind everyone we are falling back one hour as we return to PST (that's Pacific Standard Time). You all may have devices that do this automatically, but you may want to change any devices that don't, like plug-in alarm clocks or your car's clock before going to bed. Hope to see everyone tomorrow!

🙏ONLINE/Hybrid: Sunday meditation and dharma talk:
The Transformative Power of Equanimity,
with Tenzin Chogkyi (Tibetan)
March 26 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm PDT
The Transformative Power of Equanimity
Mindfulness meditation has become wildly popular in the last decade or two, and is taught in places as diverse as corporate board rooms, maximum security prisons, and everywhere in between. One of the standard definitions of mindfulness is “awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally,” according Jon Kabat-Zinn, the founder of the popular program Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
The focus in many popular mindfulness programs is on the attentional training, and not as much emphasis was given to the “non-judgmental” aspect of mindfulness. But equanimity itself has a transformative power – join us to explore some of the gifts of equanimity and how to bring this quality into our lives.
Tenzin Chogkyi (she/her/hers) is a teacher of workshops and programs that bridge the worlds of Buddhist thought, contemplative practice, mental and emotional cultivation, and the latest research in the field of positive psychology. She is also a certified teacher of Compassion Cultivation Training and the Cultivating Emotional Balance program. Tenzin is especially interested in bringing the wisdom of Buddhism into modern culture and into alignment with modern cultural values such as racial and gender justice and environmental awareness. She feels strongly that a genuine and meaningful spiritual path includes not only personal transformation, but social and cultural transformation as well. She loves interfaith collaboration and is a volunteer for the Interfaith Speakers Bureau of the Islamic Networks Group in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. She is featured on a monthly radio show called “Reflections on Buddhism on KSQD 90.7 in the Santa Cruz area. She also finds time to create her Unlocking True Happiness podcast which you can check out at unlockingtruehappiness.org where you will also find her current teaching schedule. She is currently based on traditional Awaswas Ohlone land, in what is now known as Santa Cruz, CA.

A couple’s practice talk by Lisa and Karson Kovakovich. They will share their practice story as a couple and talk about spiritual friendship in their marriage. The talk will be followed by practice circles.
Bio
Sangha community members, Lisa and Karson, have been regularly practicing vipassana meditation and the buddha-dharma together since 2011. Lisa is a yoga teacher, and physical therapy assistant, and has a master’s degree in Counseling. Karson is a meditation teacher, executive coach, and has a PhD in Philosophy. They are celebrating 19 years of marriage this month.
Practice Circles give us a safe container to speak and listen with our whole presence, to practice mindfulness while communicating and receiving. Following meditation and a brief period of mindful movement, we will divide up into groups to explore the topic of the evening. Everyone will have a chance to speak and listen from the heart. Choosing silence is honored also. All are welcome.
