As Roshaun put it, “Artwork is what we do to survive, what we do to thrive, what we do to be present, what we do to create, and so that is the realest part about the work.” Tee emphasized the call for artists to be paid for their work, “It's real hard work. It's real impactful work, and it's the kind of work that should be monetized.”

The 2018 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Manual is eligible for possible revision in 2028. The SOC is a tool that organizes workers, including artists, by code. From now through Aug. 12, workers are invited to offer feedback on the current SOC.
📣 The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has issued a call to artists to exercise their voices and comment by visiting regulations.gov. According to the article, one of the concerns voiced by the National Endowment for the Arts is that there is no code for artists working across multiple disciplines.
A new research report commissioned by United States Artists and written by Joanna Woronkowicz of Indiana University surveyed artists, analyzed existing labor data and offered suggestions to help artists comment on the SOC.
Sunil Iyengar, Director of the Office of Research and Analysis at the NEA, wrote about Woronkowicz’s findings, “If these labels have gone unchanged, then how well do the numbers reflect macro-level shifts in the functions and characteristics of working artists in the first quarter of this century? Put another way, have the job titles, the technologies used, the nature of work performed, and educational requirements altered to such an extent that we now should reconsider who counts as an artist?”
🗣️ Visit our website to read the full article, find the full list of codes, and leave a comment by Aug. 12: https://www.caforthearts.org/news/nea-advocates-for-artists-to-weigh-in-on-federal-job-coding

Earlier this year, CA for the Arts staff members Jean and L.T. had the pleasure of attending Canva Create! 🎨✨ Hosted by Canva, the event was a whirlwind of innovation packed with over 50 speakers, inspiring sessions, and engaging workshops.
At CA for the Arts, we're dedicated to supporting our team's professional and creative growth, and bringing new skills back to our organization. This event taught us so much about leveraging Canva for consistent branding, human-centered design principles, team building tools, and streamlining our workflows.
As arts advocates, we know how important technology is in our daily work. Canva Create not only inspired our creativity but also connected us with fellow artists and provided insights into the current creative landscape in our digital world. We also had the opportunity to network with business innovators and creators, all while learning from incredible panels and speakers!
We left feeling inspired and energized by Canva's potential. Can't wait for next year's event 🚀

Because California is the State of the Arts
Californians for the Arts (CFTA) believe arts should be accessible to every Californian and that the arts are essential to any prosperous and truly democratic society. Especially in a state as diverse and culturally rich as California, the arts serve to give voice to our many communities, spark individual creativity, foster empathy and understanding, spur civic engagement and serve as a continual source of personal enrichment, inspiration and growth. Moved by our deep conviction of the civic and personal value of the arts, our mission at Californians for the Arts is to increase public awareness of the importance of the arts; to ensure that the arts are an ongoing part of the public dialogue; and to encourage Californians to care about the arts as a critical component of their own lives and the lives of their communities.
Californians for the Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is the sister organization to California Arts Advocates (CAA).
