July may be almost over, but the conversation around is important all year long!
July is Bebe Moore Campbell ! Let's honor Bebe Moore Campbell's legacy by breaking the stigma and creating safe spaces to explore our mental health.
Through education, advocacy, and community support and empowerment, we can create a future where mental health is a priority for all. Together, we can heal communities. It starts with one conversation. Learn more about how to get engaged this month by visiting nami.org/bebemoore
We need your help.....
NAMI's Advocacy Headquarters NAMI champions better care and better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental health conditions. Join our advocacy. Be a part of the change.
NAMI Sacramento is proud to and thankful for our continued partnership with our regional Law Enforcement Communities. The Sacramento Police Department is conducting a 40 hour "Crisis Intervention Team" training for the graduating Academy cadets. This program is designed to help officers better respond to Mental Health Crisis Calls for service. It also teaches them how to better care for their own mental wellness and build resilience. These trainings have directly contributed to better outcomes for everyone involved in those types of service calls.
Not only can CIT programs bring community leaders together, but they can also help keep people with mental illness out of jail and in treatment, on the road to recovery. That’s because diversion programs like CIT reduce arrests of people with mental illness while simultaneously increasing the likelihood that individuals will receive mental health services.

From : A new NAMI/Ipsos poll shows that many Americans still don’t know what to do if they or a loved one are in crisis or having thoughts of su***de. As we mark the 2nd anniversary of 988 this July, help us spread awareness of this lifesaving resource.

We are so excited to welcome 1 Degree of Separation next Saturday , June 15th, as part of our opening program for NAMIWalks Northern California!
“1 Degree of Separation, A Funny Look at Depression and Su***de” is a su***de prevention training program that uses comedians to talk about anxiety, depression, and su***de. It began with its debut show in 2019. Since then, it has been presented at over 100 events in 11 states.
The first segment of the show is an introduction and brief family-friendly comedy set from each of the four comedians. This gets the audience vested in the individuals on stage and changes the brain chemistry with laughter and humor.
Next, the panel of four comedians join together on stage to answer and discuss the "5 Questions" regarding their own battles with depression. This demonstrates to the audience "how to have a conversation." After the show, the audience receives a copy of these 5 Questions to use as a tool for having their own conversations.
1 Degree of Separation is so much more than an awareness program. This presentation has and continues to help prevent people from dying. Every audience member leaves with life skills and an ability to talk about depression and su***de. Talking about it is the first step to saving lives.
